The hull structure is very similar to the Ranger, but with better arranged armament. It has only two fusion beams, but It was hoped that centerlined firing arcs for them would make them as effective as the Ranger's larger number. They were rpoven wrong in combat.
The Horseman was a dissapointment as a war cruiser, being not as powerful as the CWs of other races(the 90% effectiveness sought was never achieved). Extensive refits were not able to fix the basic problems of this class, and it was replaced by the more powerful Mongol medium cruiser a short time later. Horsemans continued to be produced for a source of hulls for variants, however.
