Galileo 5 shuttle
« on: November 22, 2003, 12:07:26 am »
Heres my latest a galileo 5 shuttle this model shown "shuta"  is 664 poly it also has textures for the TNG version named Hawking . There are 2 problems with the model   , the first is i mirrored the texture so the name is fliped on the other side , i dont have the uvmaping skills to map it the exact same on the other side    and i forgot to apply i maps before i exported it to .mod and i still havent learned how to apply i maps to a already textured model    so its not lit too

Download it  here

Ok Kreeargh, why don't you try this to get your mapping the same on both sides?

Select the faces on the side that you have mapped correctly that you wish to mirror, detach them as a clone and mirror them across the hull. Delete the faces that they will be replacing on the other side. Now it will be mapped the same on both sides. All you have to do then is create either a new texture for that side so that the 5 and other text will read in the correct direction.

(attach the new faces to the old mesh, weld vertices etc)

To add illumination all you have to do in Max is press M, press "get material", select "scene" and double click on one of your textures. Scroll down to the "maps" section of the dialogue box and where it says illumination, click it and you can select what map to use for the illumination. Once you've done that, click "go to parent" and then "show map on viewport".

Hope this is of some help and maes sense to you

Very nice shuttle. I saw a replica of this shuttle in Planet Hollywood but those bozos who made it put the wrong registry on it. They had it as the Galileo but gave it the number 7. I guess they did that because of the TOS episdo the Galileo 7.

Dude, let me ask.. what are you using for meshing?  'Cause if you're using either Max or Milkshape,  I can help you get the illumination maps in there without having to remap all the textures all over again..

Let me download your shuttle and convert it over to a program model file for both (a .MAX or .MS3D), add illumination maps to the shuttle, and then send you the results with a step-by-step in how to add in illumnation maps.  It's not too difficult.

Not a problem then.. if you've already exported the ship tp .MOD, it actually has the mapping on it, and you don't have to remap again.  And that still means you can add the illumination without a problem.

I'll generate the .MAX file and send you an email with some pics to show you how it's done.  The thing is, you're probably going to kick yourself when you see how easy it is.    The good news, it'll be easy to retrofit all your ships afterwards to add illumination maps.  (grin)

Alright, the ship is all done.. plus I also created a tutorial based off this.    Didn't start out that way, but when I said I'd do up some pics, then I thought that I should add some descriptive text as to what to do.  After that, it kind of ballooned on its own and became a tutorial.  (sigh).

I'll just have to add it to the website, that's all..

But still expect some email with some stuff to look at, I'm including two .MAX files, some bitmaps, and the final .MOD file for ya.  The tutorial I'm going to put up on the site, but I'll also send you a .DOC/.RTF/.HTML file (your choice as to what) so that you'll have all the steps to follow to see what I did so you can replicate the idea in the future for yourself.

Heheh... then in this case, I'll kill two birds with one stone as it were.

Here's the direct link to the tutorial, and check your Hotmail account as well, you should have email there...
http://www.the-tcs.net/_hosted/atheorhaven/html/alec/m1m2s3_1.htm

This also meant that I finally had to update my website   with some actual links and such and things telling people what they are and stuff.  It needed doing anyways for months, and still isn't done.. but is done for tonight.  News page has a crapload of pix that are *some* ships I've worked on since Sometime in July, so feel free to sneak a peek in there.. there's one or two that haven't been mentioned and no pics have been posted of them anywhere else yet.

And glad that I could help...
