i didn't say Activision had to publish it..
there's Loop holes to get around that suit...i think

like filing a Monopoly suit... activision trying to take a whole genre and make it thiers.

dont know if that will work, but you can always look into it. beats me..

but dont count me out...

other than that.. dont look at me.. i only have an idea that works.. and if Activision wants it.. they will have to shell some cash..untie the suit deadlock.
if taldren wants it.. i'll straight up give it to them.

Lets extrapolate on this pseudo-MMOG.  What is the big downside to dynaverse?  The servers - someone has to host them, someone has to pay for the bandwidth.  What if we were able to layer a P2P/GRID style comm system over the existing code.  This isn't as hard as you would think - Given what I can gather from the info provided by NuclearWessels etal, this is how Gamespy currently works.  Once the mission is selected and the players chosen the game kicks into P2P between each gamers system.  Why not apply the same principles to a new version of the dynaverse - A P2P layer that kicks off the Gamespy routines for tactical combat.  You could use a F&E style persistent campaign, autogenerated mission scripts, Fleet command structures, economics modules, the possibilities are endless.

Just a thought

I believe the TOC guys already do this.

Thank you, Kroma, but it is actually STOC (Starfleet Tactical Operations Command)

www.stoc.info is where you can find our site..... there is some changes going on, but all the links you need are connected to that site.

Oh, and Raniz,

I agree.... a MMO would be awesome!!!  Though I think I would prefer it to be SFB base (due mainly to consistency in 'its canin' over the other ST games) 2D or 3D doesn't bother me either way....

The battles could be massive since you could call in allies while the battle is going on.... just thinking of it gives me shivers....

I mean, imagine... now on the D2 & D3... you get into combat with a DN while you are floating along in a DD or something.... what is there to do?  Run... take a pot shot or two?

In an MMO, you could engage the DN while calling in allies to help deal with it..... of course, they could do the same to you.....

I would like to see skill levels for offices like SFCI & SFCIII have....

It would be fantastic.... which is probably why Paramount & Activision wouldn't do it....

ahh ok go ahead make fun of a new idea.. nobody likes change anyways huh? they've already made a Starwars MMoRPG. it's called SW:G they just haven't implemented the Ship expansion yet.

think of it this way.. 1 huge Dynaverse.. with free movement into hexes, not click and go. imagine your piloting C7 through those hexes while still in game mode.. passing planets and looking for that Federation ship to kill in the neutral Zone. Now imagine very little AI and Lots more Human interaction, trading, pirating, being officers in the Races StarFleet. imagine your C7 just found signs of a federation ship.. you pilot towards the warp sig.. and find yourself outside a Fleet of 25 players all flying FFG's, and this battle by no means is.. 6 player only.. it's now 25:1 odds. and now all you have to do is type / fleet to get a few more players there warp speed to cover the odds.
and i'm really talking massive Wars.. XEno corp wants to Invade Lyran space and take out a fleet and it's Starbase.. well 100+ players in 1 battle sounds like a good battle to me..
Not to Mention the persistant Universe, where even if your not online things happen. and Player vs. Player in it's true form. Using the Combat engine the SFC series has now. So if a Federation ship decides to break from the UFP and form up an Orion pirate fleet he can.. he just has to watch out of the Feds Vaporizing his Ship before he breaks the neutral zone. The only penalty.. he loses the fed Ship he stole for an orion ship. there are no leveling treadmills. no In game skills to learn.. everyone starts equal.. and only has to pass the tutorial to learn how to fly a Race ship. which will be required for all new comers to the game. it'll be the only way they have no PvP til they learn the race.

And 1 other thing.. this kinda game is not just around the corner.. i would say at least 4 years worth of Developing and testing before a beta is released. due to either converting the game engine or adding a new one. you want to expand beyond dynaverse, not add to it.

I've just spent a whole lot of time reading this thread from start to finish, and I find myself agreeing with Raniz here most of all. Just posted a cropped version of his original post to remind everyone, and make my own points.

1) The above idea is ideal. Do it. Make it happen. I don't want excuses, I don't want compromises, just make it happen. I don't care if it takes 5 years to get out, but get it out, bug free, no-expansion packs/upgrades/patches needed. I'll still be here (see below).

2) I'm a Trek fan. I'll always be a Trek fan. Why? I'll tell you. No matter what new games, books, movies, series, tech manuals, and/or 'canonising compromise' explanations come out, I love Classic Trek. Kirk and Co. Rule. In staying true to them, I will never lose my enthusiasm for Trek. All the PC crap of TNG, the 'copying B5's Shadow War' stuff of DS9, the silly (or plain crap) storylines of VOY, the destroying-TOS-canon of ENT (apart from that I kinda like it) - I don't give a flying rat's buttock. TOS Forever.

3) I'm an SFB girl. I love ST ships. I love the variation that SFB/C game me in ship combat. I played SFC1/2:EAW/2:OP for almost 3 years straight before getting bored, and that was only because I haven't DLed any new mission scripts and the old skirmishing was getting stale. I played SFC3 for one month. Having all the weapons the same and only 4 races was BORING! I want the variations of plasma torpedoes, Hellbores and Fusion beams, ESG fields, etc. (I could probably do without the drones, right enough ).
The Vulcans have it right: IDIC. The new game should stick to the spirit - if not the letter - of SFB.

I've noticed I tend to ramble too.

Anyhoo, that's my take. Got a little (!) OT, but see above.
