Have any of you guys tried eve? I played eve for a few months. Overall it was a good game but it started to get a little boring, plus a lot of the ship models were down right ugly (moa class anyone?). The combat was very simple compared to sfc and understandably so given the mmog nature of eve.

The more I played eve, the more I wished I were playing sfc with a z-axis. If you haven?t tried eve yet then don't be so quick to knock the flight model. I was very skeptical myself until I saw it in action.

IMO dynaverse represents what?s best and worst about sfc. In theory it?s a great idea but it has some flaws, not to mention that it's never really worked as well as I had hoped. If replace the hex map with a map of systems similar to eve and streamlined the server side of things, making it easier for people to run stable servers, then I think this game could really take off.

I know the startrek universe is hurting bad.. both in the game market, the tv market and the movie market. Nothing would turn things around better then a truly blockbuster game followed up by a solid movie.

i couldnt agree more. the fact that eve - a totally new game with no "base" could do well shows me that if there was a good solid trek product out there, it could really do well.

imagine being able to actually EXPLORE planets out there and beam teams down to planet to explore and what not.. not just the scan missions.

lots of possibilities.

That type of game would attract all kinds of gamers not just Star Trek gamers. I would buy five copies of that game!

Yeah, a Z-axis would be so liberating! If they'd just take all the damn SFC series, and everything that works, not add any new graphics at all, they'd have a winner. Put in crews, and skills to give you a role-playing aspect, and it would simply kick ass. (Each ship should have a unique model tho!) Just put it out bug-free and it would be kicking like a nine-legged ninja!

Every incarnation of SFC after the first has been hamstringed by the awful rush to get it into the stores. Each of these damn games would have been a success if they hadn't been rushed out so buggy. And after OP and EAW got rushed in, SFC3 took the worst early release beating of all... And it had such potential! Agh!

It's just such a shame. And now with all these mmorpgs coming on line, there is no heir-apparent in the SFC community. What a bummer.

you could prolly due a good search of a post a made about 1 year ago on this very same topic..

it's funny.. i got the bridge commander game insult too. Even thought bridge commander is way off of what i was actually saying..
And i got "well it's way too hard to make a Universe in a Computer game"

i wrote an email to Taldren about prolly o' , 6 months ago.. and still haven't got a reply

but i'd play the game....

i tried EVE online for 2 whole months before i got fed up with it. it's actually way more crappy than what he states in the first post.

3 biggest things i hated About EVE:

1) Constrictive piloting

2) Treadmill ( need i say more)

3) Combat system just sucked.

Could be why they tend to release a Expansion so early in it's ,life to regain some players that left.

Take it how you will...

I for one don't want SFC series to develope into a 3D-fighter combat game, I love the 2D feel.

However I would love to play something you described (be it trek themed or not). As long as it isn't another free-ride on the SFC series' name.

Meanwhile, has any of you tried to play Freelancer online?

Kinda off topic, but i think the greates MMORPG would be a game based on the Jedi Academy engine for personal contact and X-Wing alliance for ship to ship.

For "Trek," I feel a game either needs to stick with an SFB engine or totally abandon it for somthing that is as close to Trek Cannon as possible.

Biggest thing, a Starship should NOT steer like a fighter plane.

I have often thought the same things when i dreamed of an awsume trek game. just think from the moment you slowly pull your ship out of space dock to the time when you get multiple hails from different sectors requesting "all nearby federation vessels we need your help, we are under attack" to the reports that a masive klingon fleet has been spotted grouping in the nuetral zone. Just think cloaks that actually allowed you to bypass enemy ships and strike into the heart of the enemy, having to actually take the time to warp accross the "map" some one is being attacked in sector 0,0 and you are in sectore 20,0. so you engage maximum warp (i would love for the warp drive to actually have the different levels so different ships can have higher warp levels) and head to sector 0,0 only since this is real time it will take you lets say a min a sector to traverse (at warp nine) will take you 20 min to reach the battle. hopefully you will arive to help not to watch the explosion.

if a game even remotly comes out like tis you can bet big bucks that i would buy it.

Would it be practical to make such a game even closer to Starfleet Battles? I've never played the game, but I've read and heard much about it and it seems that Starfleet Battles has alot in it that's not Starfleet Command; stuff that I would like to see in a computer game. Things like the Andromadans and their exotic technology, the Tholians, and all the other races and technology that weren't included in SFC.

we know you would make it based on sfb, but guess what, not all of us would.

i am loving every minute of my mod.

its missile (drone) free, its fighter free.. just ship to ship combat. no #@%@# range breaks.. true cloak.. the ships are built very close to cannon but reflect the sfc2 feel - and yes- i used rough formulas to develop the ships, weapons and hit points based on sfc2 - but guess what, its not!

i know hell will freeze over first, but next time my build comes out, i would challenge you to try my mod.

some of us are trek fans first and foremost - and want a game true to trek.. that means no general war.. although you could work some of the races in from sfc2 without mentioning it (ala rat boy)

you can use elements and create somthing decent. i once started to believe what dh said - but with my mod, i think its a lot closer than you think.

some othe elements i know i want to see is exploration.. getting into the unknown - sorta like a nwn server except with ships and crew.

btw, in my mind, andros and all the other races are WAAAAAY over rated compared to what could be done with the dominion axis and borg.

Hi All

So many great ideas for sfc4 wow! it would be a dream come true if sfc4 were even half what is posted in this and my topic.Flying though a vertual realty space to get a destress call and beaming down to a planet or base to find yourself in real hand to hand combat with a klingon (like the game lord of the rings),ect.And hopfully you brought your phaser if your a fed or disruptor if your a rom,ect.if you win you transport back up to find a rom warbird decloking and firing at you in your akira so the battle is on with another human player thats found you in the dark void of a multiplayer 3d univirse.

The idea of a sfb=first person shooter game and much more is a reality and could be made for sfc4 by linking multiple game eng's together to produce the most exciting sfc series game ever made.and what is the cost of 4 game cd's compared to one?(as you got in sfc3?)pennys.

P.S Hoppfully the game designers are taking notes
