One of our local papers here has a column for computer advice. Had to share this one:

Dear Dr. Bombay: Norton SystemWorks has a pop-up to inform me that my virus definition subscription has expired. Symantec says that it is a very useful feature. This may be true -- one time -- but a daily reminder is no better than any other marketing pop-up. I asked how to disable the pop-up. Symantec's response was that it cannot be disabled!

Dear Popped: That's not entirely true, and you know it. Renew your subscription, you cheapskate. That'll make it go away. And you'd better do it before some goober out there writes a virus that'll turn your computer into a $3,000 paperweight. Hmmm, I guess that would make the pop-up go away, too. Your choice.

EDIT: His post about SpyBot is ok, but doesn't go far enough. I run Spider, AdAware, and then Spybot.
