When I first started posting on these boards, I wanted to get alot more 'alien' ships out there, because there are so many Federation ships around. And it seemed like 4 out of every 5 new models posted was a Fed of some kind. Don't get me wrong, I love the Feds as much as anyone here, but I thought it would be nice to have some more variety. But now, with all this talk of Andromedans, Tholians, Seltorians, and others, there's been a big rennaisance of alien vessels being made on these boards. I think it's great, and I want to thank everyone who's made an effort to do contribute!

Feds don't exactly offer a big challenge. Sure the TNG designs are unique but for most, they're too time consuming/complex for someone who doesn't want to spend weeks of free time on a single ship. All the other Starfleet ships have either been done to death or just aren't appealing for whatever reasons. Klingons, Roms, Andros, etc. have a particular look to 'em that usually give the right balance of being interesting/fun to create and also giving someone an outlet for learning and developing their skills. Not to mention allowing for more creativity, especially with the Roms and Andros that have very little to no references.

Actually, I just think everyone has gotten sick of blowing up the same old ships with their shiny new Fed CA and want something new to point their photons at...

Its about time really, not much point in having sexy uber cool Federation ships without equally cool adversaries to play against.

Now if the Romulans get a Melak...

Best wishes to everyone contribuitng to our growing collection of non-Fed ships.

I've always been averse to doing Feds myself, given that, well, EVERYONE does Feds...

hey, hey.. i love those sexy fed ships.

seriously, i think what you are seeing is people getting tired of doing fed ship after ship and instead are working on new and cool designs. i love seeing the monsters. heh.

No I have been releasing a steady diet of them latily so they are still about.

I also have 2 romulans to finish and some mirrored ships on that should be done too list. Then I need to work out how to retexutre one of moons kligon K'tinas becuase 30 textures is too many.

Thanks for this post- great idea- I have a lot of fun playing Fed, naturally....

but playing alien ships is always a little exciting to me- kind of gets the imagination going a little extra...

I'm still making Feds! Only TNG ones though, and original designs at that - thanks to Azel

I was thinking Anduril, the master model maker that he is, was "yanking my chain", lol.

I'm pretty sure he knows what the Romulan Melak is and it's NOT the FASA Romulan V-4.

Just in case he wants more information:

I was  respectfully,  trying not to 'bug' Anduril about the Melak or the V-4 because, if memory serves, he has the second version of the TNG/post TNG Romulan Kerchan somewhere on his "to do list".

I always found it rather funny that everyone and their grandmother in this palce has done atleast 1 constitution. There must be enough of them by now to overrun 2 quandrents. Anywas, we need more romulans. Hopefully with jeffwallace back in the picture, we'll get some interesting stuff.

Heheh.. I'm working on them all right now.

Looking at my project list on my wall right now, I still have to complete:

1) TOS Excelsior
2) Excellentia
3) New Orleans
4) Freedom
5) Tholian Web
6) Planet textures
11) Weapons textures
12) Mackie conversions (going to try and get what he has out across)
13) Starbug/Red Dwarf (Starbug is complete more or less, but is waiting for me to figure out the smoothing problem on RD)
14) U.S.S. Defiant from "The Tholian Web" (99% complete, just text files for the SFC3 version to finish)
18) Nanner's rescale project (Feddie's, Klingons, Romulans, and lots of other races here including Borg).

So that's 5 Feddies in seperate projects, and 4 other race/other object projects, and then the consolidated projects of Nanner and Mackie to complete before I get my month off.
