Has anyone seen a shot of the actual Galactica?
« on: November 11, 2003, 01:03:48 pm »
I've seen pics of the vipers and cylon raiders but I have yet to see a shot of the actual Galactica. At least I haven't seen anything that I recognize as it. Anyone know of a pic? Thanks.

Only picture I've been able to find is from the upcoming game. Since the Viper looks just like it does in the show I can only guess that the Galactica will be same the same looks just like the original series.

No. The best I've seen is this from http://www.gateworld.net/galactica/

It anyone's guess if this is Galactica, or another Battlestar. In the script I saw, Galactica was one of the oldest (about to be decommisioned). It's possible this image is one of the "new" Battlestars that get Cylon-fried...

I always thought the ships in the original BG were cool. From the photos I have seen so far, it is looking like they are not screwing with the visual aspect of the ships in a big way. I think that is a nice touch. I'm not so sure about the gender changes of a few of the characters but I will just have to watch it to see...

The original leaked first draft is here MAJOR SPOILER WARNING.

It no doubt has been changed since. Rumor has it that Moore himself leaked it. If true, then such a leak is an attempt to get fan feedback for subsequent rewrites.

However, I fear that some of the truly venomous attacks by some hardcore BSG fans may have been counterproductive. Instead of positive feedback (Why make the Colonials so like Earth society? The "Baltar-Number Six" storyline is too much like a plot-device voiceover, Too much of a US wet-Navy feel, Keep the mystical "Egyptian" feel, etc.), some responded with attacks and boycotts. The result being a potential hardening of Moore in his original concept.

I think I saw something similar in the 360 view thing at the official site.  It could be a damage control schematic ala Trek.

Correct RatBoy.
This is confirmed to be the miniseries Galactica. Go to the official site ( http://www.scifi.com/battlestar ), do the Virtual Tour of the CIC, select the center of room (port) station and zoom on the consoles.

The only external shot I've seen in this. Again, we assume this is Galactica.

A caveat to the above review: it was written by site founder Harry Knowles, whose credibility in my eyes dropped to the basement after he panned Star Wars Episode 1 yet praised Episode 2, both pretty much the same movie.

Big 'ole Harry is quite a character..

Has he gone "Hollywood" now that his site has gained a measure of notoriety? Did the BSG producers not comp him enough stuff or offer him a plane ride to the set? Who knows? Can his site possibly include the f-word a few more times? See? We're fanboys, not studio hacks posting anon! We use the f-word a lot!
Harry claims to still be a pure fanboy, but he does talk shows and interviews...

I dunno. I do know he saw the unfinished product. From his opening paragraph, I can tell he HATES the new Cylon-made-by-Man premise.

Will the BSG mini suck? Dunno. Is Harry right? Dunno.
I'll know what I think of it about 4 seconds after I see it....

Seriously I dont like the redesign of the ship. I care somewhatless for the character changes. The alternate timeline in the first link  kind makes sense. I don't know if I'll be happy with it but Some people are way over the top in thier reaction to it.

LOL @ Stormy....

I'm with you on the ship design...ugh. I was hoping this was one of the "new" Battlestars that gets nuked-not Galactica, and that the Galactica looked like the original... Sigh...

I still reserve judgment on the mini until I see it.

I do have one overall problem with the stated goal of the mini (and much Sci-Fi on the air now): "Character-driven" plots.

Moore has said much about how this mini is about the characters. "Imagine if you were on an aircraft carrier and the world ended". I strongly think characterization should flow from good STORY, not the other way around. Look at Enterprise and Voyager: a Seven episode, a Hoshi episode, a Tucker episode, etc. Please do not force the characters on us! A please don't keep employing the B-plot just to "develop" a character.

I want good storytelling. Good characterization comes from reacting within a good story. The reverse is seldom true.
