Forward weapon arc overlap - Dom Wars
« on: November 13, 2003, 03:50:00 am »
I have just installed the Dominion Wars mod and have noticed that ships that have forward primary weapon arcs that are split in the middle no longer can fire both weapons at once any more.

It used to be that a ship with two forward firing phasers with forward left and forward right arcs (270 to 360 degrees and 0 to 90 degrees) could fire both weapons at once if the enemy ship was centered.  There was about a 5 degree overlap in the very center.

This is a very large change - it cuts the forward volley firepower of many ships in half and forces a fire-small turn-fire approach which is doable, but a pain.  I am wondering if this change is inherant in the mod itself, or if it is due to other changes.

I see that it is not all  forward split arcs that are affected - only some.  The 180 degree port and starboard arcs overlap each other in the fore and aft by a good five degrees or more.

Again, can anyone say whether this change is because of the mod or for other reasons?

I am aware of the problem, but it is not of my causing. It's been reported and will hopefully be fixed in the next version.

If you have any more problems, can you either PM me or visit my own forums (link in sig). I don't scan these forums for people posting DW error reports.
