SFC v.1 on a WinXP subnotebook
« on: November 07, 2003, 09:43:41 am »
OK, So I'm an atypical Gamer - I do all of my gaming in spare moments on my subnotebook while "on the road", usually at Bistros/Coffeeshops.

I'm an old-time SFB hand and like to play SFC I (single user) as a brain relaxer.

Unfortunately, even with a USB CDR attached to my subnotebook (Fujitsu P1120, 800mhz, 256mb, Mobility Radeon) I can only run Multiplayer. (which seems to run fine BTW)

Is there a patch that will allow SFC "see" my USB CD under XP?

Please Please?

There was another thread about this a few weeks ago. You might could do a search and find it. You might get everything you need from the link below and from Pestalence.

Hope this helps

Thank you very much.

I'm looking forward to Pestalence's Patch.

I want to start Losing at SFC again.   (Can't help it... I mostly play(ed) Lyrans).

UPDATE:

FYI All you XP & Subnotebook users out there SFC I WORKS on my Fujitsu P1120 subnotebook!

My ships have all died glorously at the hands of everybody this weekend.

Thanks to Pestalence for the Fix.

Here's the scoop for you road warriors out there - YOU CAN HAVE YOUR SUBNOTEBOOK AND GAME TOO!

My P1120 is the same size as  the NEC MobilePro WINCE machine (maybe fractionally larger with extended battery), but runs XP on an 800mhz Crusoe chip.

I've been WIFI-ing SFC-I in multiplayer mode, but wanted to do campaigns while on the road.  Pestalence's XP/CD fix got me back to where I wanted to be with one exception - I still had to lug around my USB-CD (Sub-subs traditionally being one spindle machines)

Enter WUGNET and their 101 Greatest Apps&Utils CD.

Included therein is a neat little utility by V-Com (shareware, $39.95) called CD-Anywhere which allowed me to install my SFC-I CD to my HDD.  Using this app in conjunction with the fix allows me to play SFC ANYWHERE without needing to lug around my USB-CD.

Bonus!  (I may try it with Klingon Academy next...)

See you in the Bistro!
