Official Lost Era thread
« on: November 08, 2003, 10:36:09 am »
OK, since I've had a pretty good response from people about doing the Lost Era, I figured I'd make thread that would be easier for y'all to find.

So far, the races that I'm going to be doing/getting done are:
Feds
Klinks
Rommies
Cardassians
Tholians
What are your suggestions for other races? Gorn, Mirak, Lyran, Hydran? Does anyone know who the Kinshaya are? In the series of novels, part3 involves the Klinks and Cardys. Mentioned are the Kinshaya, who are supposed to be enemies of the Klinks.

The ships that are completed, or almost so, are:
FED:
Ambassador
Centaur (re-texturing my USS GORGON)
Cheyenne

KLINK:
Mackies K'Tirrpa modified BoP

CARDYS:
Azels Akril Class cruiser (being textured by Fury_of_a_seraph)

Still needed (of the list I made up...suggestions on more appreciated):
Fed:
Constellation
Excelsior
Ent.B re-fit
Freedom
Niagara
Oberth
Saber
Steamrunner
It has been suggested to add the Miranda line...but those were out of commision by then so, maybe not...what do y'all think.

Klink:
B'Rel
K'Vort
D-7 re-fit (before K'Tinga was made to increase the life of the aging fleet)
K'Tinga

Romulan:
BoP
Melak
D'Deridex (late in the Lost Era)

Cardassians:
??? Need more ideas for these guys.

Tholians:
Standard Tholian Ships, plus, IIRC, they had a new cruiser in book 1 of the series.

Please let me know any suggestions for this. If you have a model or something to contribute, you can send it here: jason@sandman3d.com

If you like the look of the logo I made (I feel like a copycat, but I was making this up before I saw the great GaW one), you can add to you sig line  http://www.sandman3d.com/lostera/images/losterapg.jpg

Hope y'all want this to happen. I'll understand if it gets a little lost in the shuffle, as I know a lot of people are excited about GaW (I am too  ), but I'll keep going on it and still be here when the hoopla dies down.

I'm watching this with great interest. Sorry I can't volunteer at the moment. Sorta tied up
with this Mirak thing and RL. Still got bands to play in, so I'm out on the road 3 or 4 nights a week. Not much extra time.

I still think this era is what Paramount should have done the post Voyager series on. The whole "from Praxis to Yesterday's
Enterpise" time period. That might actually be a good motto for your mod come to think of it.

I agree, heck even the SULU series would have been much better.

NP, Pata...ya gots to eat, right? I think this will take awhile, as I, for one, am new to the whole mod making thing and need to figure it out. Right now I'm just working on getting ships...then scripts and so on. Plus, I figure that for awhile the GaW mod will be taking all the attention...look at the size of that thread!!

On another note...Unless someone else comes up with one I will be trying my hand at making the Melak. I noticed that it appears identical to the D'Deridex with a few exceptions, namely the "tail" is gone on the Melak. Any thoughts? If I use the schematics for the D'Deridex and modify accordingly, will it look right? Thanx for any help.

Sandman,

I retextured a KDX kitbash by SpaceCadetGlowUK that just might fit the role of the Klingon ship you mentioned in the other thread you wrote.

In regards to the Melak you can download a set of Melak pics in a .rar file  here:

Cool!!

I think I have those Melak pics, but they are kinda dark, being screencaps and all. Am I on the right track as far as the basic look and feel is? To me, the Melak is an older, smaller cousin of the D'Deridex; like I said, it looks alot like it. There's also a schematic at Starship Schematics for the C-5 cruiser that looks similar, just without the bottom wings. I'll post a pic in a few.

Here's that schematic of the C-5. Is this more along the lines needed?

Found this Cardy at Starship Schematics. What do you think? Make a good Lost Era Light Cruiser?

Not real familiar with the Melak. What episode did that appear in?
The C-5 looks really cool. So does the Cardy. I always do a double take when I see a Cardy ship like that.
The bow doesn't really jump out as being the "front" of the ship. Know what I mean? At first glance I thought
it was some odd Klink attack cruiser.........until I realized that was the tail not the bridge. lol

The Melak isn't cannon IIRC. I believe it is from the opening movie from an ST game? Anyway, from what I can make out from the pics I have is that it appears to be a smaller, slightly different version of the D'Deridex. Seems like a perfect Lost Era Rom cruiser to me.

Sandman, that C-5 is about as close to the Melak as the Reliant is to the Excelsior.

Yo, no need to get huffy. Here's a pic from your post at bcfiles...look damn similar to me.

Like I said, the C-5 is missing the lower wings, but the shape for the rear is pretty close...just doesn't have the w shape. Now, if someone could get screencaps of the side and top/bottom, that would help, but going from what you have in the .rar file it's close. A LOT closer than the Reliant and Excelsior. More like the Reliant and Constitution.

I should have put a " "  in there.

This is probably the only ship I get really passionate about. Anybody else remember the first High poly Connies or Excelsiors? People came out of the woodwork to *COUGH*  'help' model makers get them dead on.
"Oh look, the Excelsior's the wrong color blue or its pennants should be placed at 'X' vs 'Y' Or even the connie should be this shade of eggshell/pink/steel gray/white/Amber." Lots of  enthusiasm in the early days around here, lol.

Please don't take my enthusiasm for the Melak too seriously, I don't ; that's why I play Feds/Klingons in SFC... However, I have a WORD ddocument that has a small Pink top down schematic I can send your way.

BTW: After I pressed 'submit reply' I realized that my analogy should have been what you wrote: Miranda to Connie.

Well done Sandman

Cool, please send it. Went back thru the pics in the .rar, and I can get a good idea of side and perspective views, but the top would be great! What I see as a stumbling block is the curve on the wings...down around to the rear. This one will probably be  WIP for a long time...curse or no curse, I'm used to doing Feds, and this is more complicated. I vow I shal make this...good or bad, curse or no.

Your welcome to use any of my models  though they are not cannon accurate
Some of the TNG will get new versions but that might not be for a while .

Thanx! Canon accurate? What's that? Besides, there are only a few trully canon ships from that time period, so, shouldn't be a big deal.

OK, started texturing the BoP (see its thread), and tinkered a little on making the Melak...have some ideas, but won't post a pic yet...looks bad at the moment. That sumb*tch is tough.

Working on getting a webpage up for this...still have room on my site, and I can have as many sub-domains as I want and have room for.
