Actually, a lot of the OP crowd hasn't moved "on" to the next game, they've moved "back" to EAW.
There is a fairly nice looking OP server
by the SFX guys waiting on the shelf, but most OP dyna admins have decided it's pointless to try and put up a server before the OP dyna patch
comes out.
I've no idea when the patch will be out. Taldren/Activision is releasing an OP patch on the week of Feb 24th, but it isn't supposed to have any
dyna improvements in it. (Which -- as every good campaigner knows -- means it isn't any patch at all.
) Articfire is working on patching
the problems with the OP dyna on his own time and at his own expense, but as he is just one private guy it's hard to get an idea of how long that
will take.
I'm sure you'll love SFX's linked mini-campaign idea once the OP dyna is workable. But until then, can I invite you to join us on EAW? Darkelf
has a test server up on EAW that is using an SQL database. There are several more good campaigns launching "any day now". Karnak is about
to launch a campaign modeling the ISC invasion. I've nearing completion of
Day of the Eagle with carriers for the Roms and Gorn, and
introducing drogue technology from SFB to SFC. And of course, you won't want to miss the upcoming mega-campaign by the SFC2.net crew:
Revenge of Dr. Srangelove. This one promises to allow allies to use each other's supply bases, and to have new villain races flown by the admins.
At my local CompUSA store EAW still tends to sit with all the new arrivals rather than on the discount rack, but don't let the location fool you. EAW
has been discounted as heavily as OP has. Last I saw it was selling for ten dollars US, and that is quite a bargain for such a good game.
Hope to see you online soon, and flying Gorn, of course!
