Enough, Azrael,

If you are going to insult somebody,
at least have the guts to do it explicitly.

When was the last time you made a
positive post?

I am still praying for you. I'm sure there's
a nice person in there somewhere..

I have noticed as of late the Fileplanet's servers will not allow me to d/l a complete download in the daytime, and are slower than heck.  It's gotten to the point that I have gone looking to other places for my demo's and patches...since it's insane.  I am using cable and still have a pitiful d/l rate (it sinks down under 50 kb/sec, which kind of defeats the reason I'm for higherspeed connections, no matter what time it is, whilst if I go elsewhere, I get respectful rates.  I think something may be up with gamespy recently, as they used to, just a few weeks ago, had fast lines for download, but now, it seems their fast downloads have gone kaput overall, and I don't know why...which can be excessively frustrating.

During the day, not only do I get slow d/l's, but as the topic starter seems to have experienced, 3/4 of the time I get a d/l freeze halfway through, in which I am getting nothing from Fileplanet.  Typically this only applies to something over 100 MB, so I still can get smaller items, but it is rather annoying to wait to connect and then not even be able to finish the d/l.  Luckily I've found around 3 other sites with similar stuff as Fileplanet which don't suffer these problems currently.  Had to find them...out of desperation.

LOL the better way of boycott something on the internet is not using it...

The older could remember How Gamespy and even Fileplanet started... Now they are turning into Big Money-making
thingies. I'm not against earning money in the internet but I strongly reject those morons that want to have money
for other's work... I don't care about demos and things like that... but patches, specially for those games that are
IMPOSIBLE to play 5 minutes in a row in their initial release, having to pay to FIX a PRODUCT that you have paid for
is just something that only M$ dare to even propose...

I mean if I buy a NEW car and as soon I try to drive it, it brakes... Then I have a WARRANTY so the repairs needed to
have WHAT I PAID FOR doesn't cost me a cent... period. Computer users during this years of M$ dominance have relaxed
their expectatives on NEW product quality...

If you don't complain (or act against it) NOBODY will ever do anything for you.

Actully if you subscribe to GSA, by paying $20 then you get free immediate game patches.  So stop complaining and give out $20.

God i hate everybody like you who comlain about things like this, just $20 and you can be happily downlaoding all the patches you want!

If I were rich and stupid I would 1. buy new socks instead of washing them, 2. buy the least reliable car I could find and take a cross-continent road trip in it, and 3. leave briefcases of money in random homeless populations.  But I would never, EVER pay for downloads that should be free and are elsewhere.

Oh... and if I gave even half a rat's @$$ I would be offended at that last sentence.

Oh, BTW, thanx for all the help

Yeah, it's now $20 but that's only for a year.  No more lifetime subscriptions.

We live in the land of the Ferengi, ladies and gentlemen. The promise of capitalism and 'free' trade. Market economics and the laws of supply and demand at work. Everything has a price and can be 'freely' traded in a 'freely' competitive environment. Competition spurs on growth and development. And the currency for the trade is money of course!
The greater a consumer is willing to pay for an item, the higher its demand, the higher the price will be.

Its why this planet produces enough food in total to feed itself over completely 3 times, and yet, one-third of the entire world's population is starving to death.

It's why 90% of the world's resources are controlled by 2% of it's population.

It's why there must be poor people, in order for rich people to exist.

It's why a first time offence on aggravated assault will get you a 6-month behaviour bond and a slap over the wrist, but credit card fraud will give you a jail term.

It's why no matter how much money you plug into social welfare, there will always be poverty and the ever widening gap between the 'have's and the 'have-nots'.

Ah yes, you can buy absolutely anything and everything is 'freely' available in a corporatised, privitised, capitalised world. Food, medical and health services, education, shelter, even your pet Mirak can have the best of living standards offered to him/her. Oh, just one teeny weeny small thing, so long as you can pay for it.

Someone has brains enough to see reality for what it is. I completely agree with you, Tracey.  You took the words out of my mouth.

...ummmm...out of all this, you all do know there are other sites. In fact, a site that hasn't let me down at all and I use constantly after Fileplanet started this pay thing and got to the point of unreliability..is 3dgamers.com. Their new FileFront service is rather good and you can get good mileage out of it too..o yeh..this coming from a guy on 56k..so ahem. No need to keep going to Fileplanet ONLY. You all need to start researching other options

I'm pissed.  I'm trying to download the 2525 OP patch, so I go to where the link points me to, wait the 90 minutes on the free servers, and I get 25 minutes away from having the entire thing (after 2 and a half hours of actual dowloading) and IE tells me the connection with the server was reset.  Does anyone else have the OP patch?  I know I'll have to sit for another 3 hours to download it, but hopefully I won't have to wait an hour and a half to even start the damn thing and get 2 and a half hours in only to have some dumb@$$ reset the server.

Yeah the whole FilePlanet thing cracks me up. Game companies should want people to download demos so they will be more likely to buy their games.

Granted, from a technical standpoint, FilePlanet is pretty slick, but the $70+ entry fee to download FREE demos is frustrating.

Whats more annoying, is there are gaming companies that ONLY release their demos on FilePlanet.. to which I'd say "keep your game then".

Try
www.xenocorp.net

Look to the left and scroll down to Star Fleet Command Downloads.  The window on the right will give you the list of the patches that are out.

Hope that was of some help to you.

Patches should be free.  The idea of having to pay for them is beyond rediculous.  Anyone who pays for a game has a right, a RIGHT to patches.

Why should we pay for something that is free to download at other sites?

I either look else where for it or wait for a time when it's not as long a wait.  The reason down load times are long is cause everyone is rushing to get them...take your time and it'll be faster.  Seen things like this at major events with 50 people trying to fit in a 1-2 person door at the same time and other things that are the same look.

It's just one of those fine example's of the unending human stupidity (as time time goes on the human race finds more ways to prove or add on to their own lack of commen knowledge)

I didnt know I could get patches for free instantly, maybe Im just dumb!? Either way it dosnt take more than 2-3 mins on a search engine to find what your looking for and no cues. Also if your going to download a massive demo, go on in the daytime for UK'ers early morning for US'ers and if ure unlucky enough to get a cue it wont be long.

Basicaly Fileplanet offer a decent free service, but also a good premium service, why would they provide all those servers completly free of charge?
