TMP Klingon Stardocks up at SFU
« on: November 04, 2003, 07:37:59 pm »
OK, this is an old retexture but I finally got them up at SFU.

http://dynamic5.gamespy.com/~sfc/files/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=644

Thanks again to DarkMatirx for converting the ST: Armada Klingon Stardock and P81 for allowing me to use his KBB textures.

Despite their initial successes against the Federation, the Klingon Empire lacked sufficient staying power during the Four Years War. The Klingon High Command learned the hard way that without sufficient logistical support close to the front lines many warships were needlessly lost. Battle damage and general stress on combat vessels that was not fully repairable by ship crews yet didn?t require the full resources of an entire starbase added to the roster of needlessly lost ships. It was decided that the Klingon fleet needed a general purpose, easily movable repair yard. Thus the N?Rendrin class shipyard was commissioned.

The N? Rendrin repair dock is slightly larger than a Komo Val Dreadnought. It is named after a fallen scout ship commander at the battle of Axanar. The N? Rendrin class ship yard is capable of repairing up to four destroyer sized vessels or two heavy cruiser class vessels simultaneously. However, dreadnoughts, carriers or battleships would require a more secure repair facility, as the N? Rendrin is not armed, and can only perform emergency field repairs to warships larger than a cruiser. Due to the hazardous nature of the duties assigned these repair yards, they are heavily armored. The Mark IV versions utilize the same type of armored deflector plating used on the B-10 series battleships. The armor is primarily intended to protect it, as best as possible, from ship based radiation leaks and from a nearby warp core breach of a ship that might not make it in time to be stabilized. Aside from reaction control thrusters, the N? Rendrin repair dock relies on tugs to get it to and from the forward battle areas. Plans are prepared to make the N? Rendrin repair yards more mobile (Mark V refits) and function similar to the Federation Pearl Class Mobile Repair Facilities. Unfortunately, the High Council has not approved funding to give these repair yards a warp engine or impulse engine component as this would detract from resources better allocated to other projects requested by the High Command.

*************************************************
This model is one of Darkdrone?s ST: Armada conversions. The original Klingon_Shipyard1 comes in a very UGLY forest green. I liked the overall design and thought, ?I?d love to have this in the TMP Era.? I then thought about the ST: TMP Maya space dock and P81?s D2 KBB textures and attempted to replicate something equivalent to that. Its about time somebody retextured something other than a warship, LOL. I use this to replace the stock KSD; I don?t like the stock SFC ?Half-eaten? Shark Cage. It took me about twenty minutes to retexture this.
DTW: please post this at your site too.

We should put this in the GAW mod with WZ45s Klingon and Romulan defense satellites that were originally in Chris Jones' TMP mod.

Bring it on Smiley!

But, to avoid a riot, perhaps the Tempest and Andor should leave drydock, eh?

BTW, what do you think of the Titan at ussmiranda.com?

Hmm...I'm not overly keen on the  USS Mirnda Titan design tbh - however depending on the textures, it could look fab!
Doesn't it strike you as borrowing too many design elements from too mnay eras/vessels? - in it's current form?

Hmmm...I don't seeing the borrowing to the extent that you do. My take on that ship is a 25th Century replacement for the Soveriegn and/or Galaxy Classes. (I'm not taking into account the bio on the site, natch). She's absolutely huge, and looks like a multi-mission platform. (defense, exploration, etc.)

I honesty love the ship, but do have a few small gripes, like the nacelle design and I'm not too sure about the 3 nav deflector arrangement, but I'd love to see her built.

Your name is actually on the top of my list for texturing. Not to knock anyone's elese's skills, but from what I've seen of your Andor and Tempest, you've got the right "look" for the Titan. I'd love to see your take on her!

Awww,  thanks!
Add to that, that not many people are keen on texturing 1) other people's work 2) TNG and onwards vessels. (at least from what I've seen)

It's mainly the nacelles and definitely the horrible deflector arrangement that bother me.
The secondary hull reminds me very much of that of an Excelsior, the saucer looks a bit like it's a cross of a Sovereign and ...uh..um, can't rememnber the name of the class - USS Paris was it? (It had big green tapered nacelles I think)

Youre very welcome!

The U.S.S,. Paris you're thinking of might be the Excalibur, which looks to me like a flattened and elongated Sovereign. She has a green nacelle variant.

So, just how many projects so you have on your plate anyway? I know of the Andor, Tempest and Klingon.

Tempest (Azel)
Ent Era Klingon (Me)
Defiant Refit (Azel)
Sentry Class (Design by Azel - I'm making the mesh & textures)

There are others but I cannot remember them! Lol

p.s. They're not in any order other than the order that I remembered them in
