But they are not using Kzinti in a computer game.   The Ringworld license is exclusive for computer game use.  SFB as a boardgame bypasses that.  I don't know if they ever legitimzed the use of Kzinti there or if Niven just "overlooks" it.

I think that it is now Amarillo Design Bureau (ADB) that owns the rights and Taskforce Games is no longer in existance (bought out by New World ?).

I'm guessing that Taldren decided to make the Mirak and Lyrans mortal enemies by making the Mirak K9(?). Totally relieving themselves of being accused of copying the Kzinti from a licensing point. Can you say, "smoke screen"?  

As a sidebar, there was a race in SFB that was K9. They were located in the section of space between the Lyrans and the Kzintis. They were wiped out shortly after warp drive was discovered by their neighbors. Go figure!

In SFB, there are nasty rumors that the Lyrans and Kzinti actually evolved from the same race...

Never mention this theory when there are any Lyrans or Kzinti around... they seem to be very sensitive to this subject.

That was one f the things I was most dismayed about wen I bought SFC-I... The "Lyran" pictured looks more like some sort of bat-lizard than Lynx-like feline (as described in SFB IIRC).

Besides, Lyrans have nicer afts than those @$%# drone-swarming rat-tailed Kzin ayway.

In SFC1 Lyrans ruled.  Wait for the enemy to fire and then rush in with 0 ESG's.  Goodbye enemy.

Timing is everything.  

I actually won a couple times at GenCon a dozen years ago with a Lyran TCC when dum-dums tried to do overload-overruns on me.  If the ESG didn't kill them outright the Mine did.

Imagine the shock when they realized I hadn't even charged my disruptors.

Gotta love massive shield reinforcement, high speed and zero-radius ESGs.

No the Andromedans are from outside the galaxy and have no allies. (Think of them as SFB's Borg ). They were only defeated by an alliance of most of the races in the galaxy.

Extras in Red Shirts got "crush me" embossed into theirs....

No one bothered to look at the remains floating around in space after a ship was destroyed?

The Andromedans never tried to board a ship during the war with the alliance?

How did the war end? I assume the Andromedans were not wiped out completely. So there would have to have been a peace treaty signed or at the very least a cease fire.

Forgive me. I had never heard of the Andromedans until I started reading the posts on this forum. I also have no idea where to find more information about them. Surely my questions are legitimate questions. Even the enemies in Babylon 5 eventually showed themselves.

thats a Taldren name to further along the dog idea that they created. Kzinti names for fighters were much less exciting.

  No treaty, no ceasefire.  They were beaten down with only a few straglers who still attacked on occasion but with X-Ships the galaxy powers had little to fear.
