DirectPlay Test Host Crashing
« on: November 02, 2003, 12:27:51 am »
I have a friend who recently installed DomWars 4.2

Everything was working fine, but then DirectPlay started crashing her PC at the "Testing DirectPlay" login for Dynaverse.

Absolutely nothing had changed, but it suddenly stopped working.

Now even the basic SFC3 install crashes at that point, DirectPlay in Dxdiag hangs upon doing the "Test DirectPlay" button.

However she can play every other game we have together.

This never happened before the recent update.  This is not a DomWars issue.  This involves that other thing recent mods have included.

Please someone, help?
We've already uninstalled DX9 (yes there are ways) and reinstalled, safe mode, overwriting files with other, known-good versions...

Dxdiag doesn't REPORT anything wrong.

That Is SFC3, Not Direct X Causing the Problem.
Try Reinstalling The Game And The Mod.
Uninstall And Delete The SFC3 Folder Just To Make Sure.
Just Save Your Customloadout Of Saved Ship For Skimishes. (GSA or Direct Connect)

Thank you for the suggestion, but she has already uninstalled the game (and deleted the SFC3 directory), then reinstalled.

She has tried:

SFC3 alone.
SFC3 w/ DX9 fix
SFC3 w/ beta patch
SFC3 w/ Domwars

None of these work, and the "Test Directplay" button in DXDIAG WORKS, but when she goes to close down the session, it hangs.

What kind of internet connection are you using and is there any firewalls (including the one inside XP) or routers involved?

She is on DSL.

No router or WinXP firewall.  (We have tried both ways - with her router and without)

This started happening for no apparant reason.
