I think you've got the concept down. What program do you use for the white parts of the lightmaps? If you have PSP or Photoshop, use an airbrush, or (at least in photoshop) you can use the filter Render>Lighting  and it will make like a spotlight shine on the black part, which when you apply as a lightmap looks like a spotlight lighting up part of the ship hull, like you did with the left "wing". You'll notice that the placing of those "spotlights" is important, and that you can easily go overboard and have too many of them. Like anything it takes practice to do well.

Personally, on gorn ships, ive always liked how Six spotlights look, going around the saucer. I think that would be kinda neat

Khalee you are off to a great start! Keep it up dude. This may seem like an insignificant skill but there are lots of great models out there that would get a new lease on life if they could be lit up. If you have this down and can do it for other models it would be a great benefit to the whole SFC community.

Been fiddlen with the light maps most of the day and this is what I got so far.

The red and white circle on the bubble is a docking hatch
