Nice. I particularly like the one with the red planet. Seems like there were a lot of red colored Class-M planets in TOS...

I'm still expiramenting with rendering settings, any tips?

Yes.......in max, experiment with using the omni-light at key positions that you think light should be coming from, or put them in areas where you think you need some illumination. Adjust the brightness and the color of the light as needed. You might want to do some spotlights as well.

At first look con4.jpg could have passed for a screen shot from the original series. As could a few others. Cool stuff Atra.

I'm really happy that you are hanging around in our little corner of the world again and having fun with it.

Man, Atra, all it takes to know one of the gurus has returned in top form is to see those pics. And thanx for the rendering advice...I've done some experimenting, but nothing to compare to what you have done. AWESOME WORK!!

Hhehhhe I know. In fact, all of the BonHomme shots were going for actual angles used in the original series.

Stunning!  Absolutely stunning!

In fact, all of them just might pass as still from TV TOS except that their designs were either "noncanon" or "later canon".  Too bad you didn't design a ship with a big cannon!

In order to pass for a TV shot, I'd actually have to degrade the pics and make them more grainy.

Have to say you managed it well. I made the association immediately with the one pic and then the others started to look like out takes to me. Guess you succeeded marvelously.

ha ha ha.

Well, I do remember what it was like.  But the VERY FIRST time I ever watched Trek, oh, boy did Kirk's old ship look sharp!  It wasn't grainy on an old Zenith black and white console TV!

Did you ever get around to animating Tholians spinning their force field web around (the Spock in temporary command) Enterprise?  Now that'll send a shiver down many a spine of us old folks!

Okay...I have resized them for 1024x768 and with ongoing permission will happily resize them for others using photoshop for anyone who asks.

With permission naturally...

For those currently using the OP+ 3.1 Shiplist and Mod;

In the opplus/model folder you will find the fcv.  This model folder represents the CVD and CVDR in the shiplist.

What's this got to do with Atra's pictures you ask? Well, I am using Atra's Coronado Carrier for the opplus fcv model, and here's why...

From SFB Module J2:
9R2.97) INTERDICTION CARRIER (CVD): As the General War went on and the carrier tactis evolved, there were two schools of thought.  One school thought that carriers should fight as line warships with cruiser-type weapons (leading to the CVS) while another school held that carriers should stay out of direct combat (although be in the battle arena) aand operate their fighters as their primary weapons.  Interdiction carriers were one result of this school, and the Federation was one of the first to adopt the idea.  The CVD was built on a CVS hull, but rearranged the saucer section to eliminate the photons and some other systems and make room for a second fighter bay with a complete second squadron of fighters.  These were F-18's as the ship lacked the power to reload A-10's.  Names: Nile, Brazos, Volga, and Yangtze.

If you look at Atra's Coronado, it has a raised deckhouse on the rear part of the primary saucer section.  Fits the bill for me. Just thought I would share.

 Btw, great pics, Atra.

You know, recently I've been playing the campaigns, and I realized that my heavy cruisers and detsroyers get a lot of use, sometimes more than 3 of them on the screen at once.........in whcih case it tends to slow my comp down. What I've been doing this week is designing LOD models for those ships, and first trials look promising......one of my heavy cruisers can be over 5000 poly, but the lesser-resolution LOD model is only about 400 or so, and I have noticed quite an improvement in comp performance. You might want to wait for me to get these LOD's ready if you plan to stick them in a mod.

That would be a highly welcome feature to your key models. And an under-rated feature. I get a big kick out of playing some of Nuclear Wessels scripts for campaign play and the number of models involved can get to be a load on the video bandwidth. If you could accomplish that it would make certain scenarios play much more smoothly.

Since we are  on the subject of perfecting some of your creations I want to bring up cloak testing your Romulan models. Perhaps it is just my set up but some of the Romulan models I really enjoy playing of yours sometimes don't cloak quite right. If I remember, the N'Neikha goes white immediately upon engaging the cloak. I know this used to a standard check at one time but seems to have been forgotten about... You have to understand that sometimes I'm more sentimental (or perhaps I'm just mental  ) about some of your models than you are. And I think I noticed that the damage textures were a little sub-par for one of the all time great SFC models. Am I complaining?... by no means... the only reason I bring it up is some of those models are too good not to point the nit-picky stuff out. And the N'Neikha was one of them.

I have to say I'm really jazzed about the state of SFC right now. With the models that have been archived from the past and the new little jewels that are being created at present we are closer to the best SFC that we have ever had. Especialy when you consider what OP+ refit and Nuclear Wessels scripts have given us. That and Klingon Fanatic seems about ready to release his FASA archive. IMHO I think it is better now than it has ever been before.
