Constitution Class - Valiant Subtype
« on: October 17, 2003, 03:30:28 pm »
I finally got around to upgrading the Valiant (again), and this time I think she's more along the lines of what I had in mind - a quick and cost effective Dominion war era refit of the Constitution class. I've scaled back the drastic changes, going for a more 'realistic' look with the only major alterations being the new/old warp engines and bridge module. The engines are in fact built partially from my Enterprise nacelles and based closely on those found on an older version of the Valiant I released last year. The bridge has the basic shape of the original Connie's but with Intrepid class design influences. I also redid the textures, which are modified from the original Enterprise, adding FC era details. The phaser arrays of the previous versions are no more -  I opted for pulse-blast phaser banks as I really doubt Starfleet could cram a full phaser strip into the Connie's hull (effectively at least). I also redid the quantum torpedo launcher, basically squeazing a launcher into the gutted saucer dome.

I'll get more in-depth with the design notes once I've edited the final draft and posted the article on DRS. The new and improved Valiant is now online along with blank textures for customization purposes.

Awesome work again WZ, but leave it to me to have really liked the old one again

At least I have it (along with that Early Sovereign one too!) but either way she looks good. I do miss the phaser ring though.

-Edited part
Thanks for the Blank textures WZ I always like to change the names to ships I am flying this will make that allot easier!

Well cool man, I been wanting a subtle TNG connie for ages, this version of the Valiant soo looks the part. BTW, don't want to annoy u or anything but, I finally got Nemesis on DVD yesterday (didn't see it in the cinema) and am now adicted to the Valdore warbirds, any chance you could make one for the Romulan section? Or a D'Deridex - either would be great. Just a thought.

I was planning to do a few canon Roms (which doesn't say much - there aren't that many to begin with) along with a few non-canon ones as the Roms are probably the most underappreciated of the major Trek races. I wouldn't mind doing a Valdore but there are few references for it outside of the numerous screencaps from Nemesis and I don't normally spend time on a ship without at least a few good shots of it. I was hoping the ST Magazine would release multi-angle views of it and the Scimitar but now that it's been canned that idea went with it.

The D'deridex on the other hand has plenty of references though she's a totally different animal when it comes to building one. It's a very smooth and elegant ship where all the parts flow into each other, not to mention the concave wings and rounded edge 'head' are a trick to model. This is why few people have attempted the 'cursed' Melak since it is a lot like the D'deridex and fairly tricky to get right.

I live in hope and darkness, as we reeeeeeeeeeeeally need a new D'Deridex, the last one I remember was Lord Delekhan's version (though DM did convert the BC one, it's not that good a model)

I was kinda dissapointed in Nemesis, they could have had more variety in the Romulan ships like a D'Deridex or two along with the Valdores, they still had the CGI mesh left over from the DS9 battle-sequences
