Just Curious...Question about Trainers...
« on: October 14, 2003, 06:23:19 pm »
My serious playing days for SFC are pretty much over.  But I am curious.  While there were a few misc "cheats" used in SFC (documented on this forum) I don't think I ever once ran unto a full blown "Trainer" for this game.  Why is that?

What did 14 Point East/Taldren do the prevent the use/construction of "Trainers" in SFC?

I am not trying to look a gift horse in the mouth; I am very grateful that this seems to have been the case.  Based on what I can gather from what my son tells me, it seems that most online gaming is more about scamming than skill.

I'm not sure Raven, Although I know there was one trainer I found for SFC 1 along long time ago. But It only worked half the time, and just gave you PP.

I can think of two things:

The provided single-player tutorials.
The network-based Coop-Ace script (which can still be played solo)

I would say because this is not a main stream game it does not draw as many spoiler people into it.  And two we added just enough code to make it troublesome for more generic trainers to work well.  Though we could have spent more time on it, it was never a big priority.

That is one thing that hackers don't get.  They always bitch about how easy it is to crack stuff, but they forget that all they do is try to cheat while game programmers have to produce a fun game.  Most bugets don't allow devoting one guy for the whole porject to add anti cheat code, and even if you could the anti cheat stuff would have to be formalized to make sure everyone making the game can spend most of their time making game componets and not figuring out how the anti-cheat sutff works.  And if it is formalized then the hackers have it easier than many different protection schemes.

This raises another Question about SFC1.

It seems to be that when you had hit and destroyed a ship from one certain shield facing, that you could get Mega PP. Does anyone of the Old old timers recall this, Or was It in another Dream.

I recall that, though I never did it.  My reasoning is that there really was no reason to cheat in SFC1 unless it was online, and then people when they found out would probably avoid you like the plague (I know I'd avoid a known cheater).  Same with SFC2.

So what if you cheat in SP, doesn't really give you anything all that rewarding.  It would make the game rather boring I think, as half the game is slowly building up your own forces.
