Well, I've gone about as high as I'm going to.  I have been asked to remove the SETI client from the machines here at work.

That's a shame. I hope producing those WUs hasn't caused you any trouble.

Thanks for all the units you did bring in though. They and your participation have moved the project and Taldren SETI forward and is mucho appreciated.

Best,
Jerry

Thank you.  I hadn't paid that much attention to it.    I've been slacking off just a bit.  I did add a new machine to my stable.  Well, I replaced one.  I pulled my P4 750 and replaced it with a P4 2.8.  Merry Christmas to me.

heh...still here, but I've been close to pulling the plug on my 4 1/2 year affiliation with the SETI@home project.  I guess I'm getting a little bored with the whole thing and it's becoming more of a nuisance than anything else.

Additionally, i'm kind of sick of seeing our team's place in the rankings affected so greatly by the whims of members choosing to leave for this reason and that...

Question about command line client and hyper-threading.
« Reply #608 on: December 15, 2003, 10:48:00 am »
Just noticed that on the new "hyper-threaded" machines that the client only runs at 50%.  Anybody know how to get it back to 99%?

Thanks...

From the post in Hot and Spicy by Erik:

Okay here is the new goal: Beat Mexico!

Taldren WU: 439300
Mexico WU: 2550330

Tall order indeed.  I'd say some big-crunch recruiting may be in order.

I don't know offhand where you got your numbers but here are mine from the top 200 team list:
Code:

141) Mexico Team    112   504283      580.600 years     10 hr 05 min 08.5 sec
164) Taldren        164   439498      354.856 years      7 hr 04 min 22.5 sec

 155) Taldren 164 439708 354.995 years 7 hr 04 min 20.3 sec

Mexico gained 240
Taldren gained 210

for a net gain of -30

I can cut 10  - 15 off the loss once the severs are up and running again and I can get the machines at work running again.

You should see a jump in my production soon.

I will admit I have been a little "ho-hum" about it lately.  I should be able to push 900-1000 WU a day soon.

!!!
Your company lets you run SETI on it's machines?

That puts my paltry 6 to 7 units per day to shame...

There are 2 P4's and a P3 that need to be running 24/7 in the dispatch. Most of the time they are logged off doing nothing. So I just use the spare clock cycles to run seti with the chiefs OK. Only problem is that because of the network setup these machines are on, I can't use setiQueue to cache and so when the Seti servers go down I need to restart each unit.

I am the Network Admin... I let me run SETI on our machines

I have actually found it beneficial on machines that run 3d modelling aps such as 3dsmax.  The Win2k Idle thread is bugged and has a memory leak when programs spen a lot of time at 99% processor utilization.  The Seti command line, works much better.  As long as Memory isn't a problem I find Seti to allow the machine to stay "up" much longer without ill-effects.

That would be it.  I suppose Team Mexico makes a little more sense.
