A few more WIPs on view - Updated 10 Oct 03

Well I've not had as much time to work on my models this weekend as I thought I might.

Sadly, a repetitive crash has led to the corruption some of my files, leading to the loss of one of my few Fed designs and two of my Roms, so I shall endeavor to recreate them (groan).  Still I've rattled off something new, and made enough updates to my website for you guys to take another browse (take a look through the Klink, Rom, Vackan and K'da pages, the others are still empty at the moment.)

Special thanks must go to Azel for creating a terrific new mesh for my K'da fleet; the 'Riyeth' is a worthy addition - take a look folks.

Always good to see new talent. Thanks for sharing

Now, if you really want to make a splash, not that you need to, make a Romulan Melak Warbird from the Star Trek: New Worlds game INTRO MOVIE. Its one of those 'cursed' models in that no super high poly accurate ship has ever been made of it. This will definitely grab a lot of folks attention

Cheers KF - I'm sure someone mentioned they were working on that particular model - though I could be mistaken.  Regardless, I'm not afraid to try it.

Oh and I've now got the Sunbird added for viewing.too...

Hope your system crashes were not related to SFC3.  I have had my puter crash a uimber of times trying to get ships in game. All it takes is for something to be off 1 space in a file. Say did you ever get that ship I sent in game?

About your meshes. Nice, getting better all the time. Looks like they have more depth now.  I think though that they could be more 3 dimentional. For example the wings could be more curved and swept down. A trait seen in most Romulan ships.

Looks like you already getting the hang of texturing as well.

Don't let that STOP you.

We have a gazillion versions by different model makers/kitbashers of the most popular canon/non-canon Federation ships. I would say there is a GLUT of Federation ships... YAWN! It would be nice to see a gazillion non-Federation ships.  There's not much point in having a sexy Federation or Klingon ship if you don't have EQUALLY cool adversaries.

Besides, there is still no high poly Melak available at the moment, lol.

At any rate, keep those ships coming off the assembly lines. Its always nice to see fresh stuff from people like you.

Say KF, would you happen to know if there is an  TOS version of the Melak, or a schematic-or is it strictly a TNG class.

I am starting a TOS kick, and intend on trying some Rommies after I finish my 1701. Have to start with a 1701 even if its been done adnausem as it is a great ship to learn some stuff on.

There are 2 big reasons why there are an abundance of Feds. I too feel like we need more of the other races. But Feds are excellant ships to hone meshing skills on, part of the reason there are so many.

I think Atheorhaven has one in the works. Not sure if he was just texturing it or meshed it also. I would like to know. Is this a canon ship, or was it just from that game intro. Cause from the breif glimpes I got, it looked exactly like a warbird. Is it just smaller or does it look different from the back?

JF - I sure did - you did a terrific job on her too!  I tried her with multiple mine layers and with that configuration she is utterly devastating...  And I didn't need to change over the lightmaps at all.

I think the crashes are more to do with me running programs simultaneously and running out of scratch memory for 3DS Max to work properly, then my computer takes a fit and chucks me out - I really need to learn to save my models when I'm happy with each modification, but I tend to become so engrossed in what I'm doing that I shut everything else out of my head... so nothing new there.

Need more depth?  I can see what you mean, to be honest.  I think there's something missing from the Sunbird in particular, so I am planning on making some more modifications to her,  For the Firewing, I did drop the wings to below her head level, but I thought it was too much and pulled them back up again... It was purely a personal aesthetic thing though.

KF - I shall try my hand at the Melak... Anyone have spec drawings for reference?

James Formo,

The Melak is a TMP warbird. I think of it as the Ambassador Class of the D'deridex lineage. A TOS version would be cool to see though.

MajorRacal, I'll send the standard set of ST: New Worlds Melak screen Captures tonight. Send me an e-mail: klingonfanatic@hotmail.com

KF thanks for that info.  I was thinking if I remember Keokuk (sp? been awhile since I seen him post) had started a Melak. I think he got stuck because there were no shots of the back or underside to go from. Perhaps that is why it never gets finished.  A TOS version would be interesting. As the Rommies designs seem to change by era more then any other race.
Course in TOS, just a bought every race used a saucer shape as a hull. Rommies, Gorn, Feds, Andromadans,  come to mind.

KF could you send me those pics as well please.  Here  james@sandman3d.com    Mind it would be awhile before I get to anything with them. But it helps to see a design and think on it a while.

KF. Nothing is showing in my mail box, and I know it works. Perhaps I butted in here and you were requesting this model specifically from MajorRacal. If so then I apologize for being too persistant. Would be nice though, now that you peaked the curiousity about the Melak, If you could just post those pics for all to see.  Perhaps it could be a joint effort with someone meshing and someone texturing like so many other projects.
