Need a little help
« on: October 11, 2003, 12:48:29 am »
Guys, I'm someh\what new to this game system (played the old SFB board game though) and I decided to but\y the entire thing, all four parts.

So, I am starting with SFC Gold, and my question is fairly soimple, and I'm sure I will feel stupid when one of you gives me the answer, but here goes.

I can't figure out how to stop the asteriod from hitting the planet mission.

I tried destroying the enemy ship, transporter bombs, the tractor doesn't seem to work, and I can't lock weapons.

What am I supposed to do to stop the asteriod?

Thanks in advance.

The tractor doesn't work?  Hmm, trying to remember this mission...can't though...so here goes my best guess.  Have you tried using the tractor at a higher level?  And did you scan the asteroid?

IIRC, you have to apply the tractor until it is about to burn out, then shut it off and apply it again when it cools off. All you have to do is get the asteroid past the point it will hit the planet and the mission will give you a win. You only need to nudge it, not tow it off the map.

Wow, thats like that episode of TNG when that star fragment is gonna hit that planet, No?
I think its brilliant how they incorperated that into the game as I aint played the original SFC yet.

Hmm, but the tractor refuses to engage!

I have tried from inside the asteriod, pointblank, from a distance, from different angles.

The tractor beam never seemed to activate.

It's really been a long time, but I think I used to get right behind it (in the same direction it was going) and grab it from there. You may have to scan or probe it first. Try reading the mission briefing very carefuly. Other than that I can't remember. I gave that game away ages ago. Sorry.

The answers are much appreciated, thanks.

I suppose if that's the way to go, I'll get it right eventually.

   Thanks.

I plan on staying around, outside of not being able to stop the asteriod, I have done fairly well with SFC I Gold, finished three campiagns so far (Federation, Romulan, and Lyran), so I will be here for some time.

I'm thinking of doing a review of the game system for the web site I write reviews for, this game system really should get wider coverage, as a battle simulator, it's quite excellent.

I know you anti SFB'ers don't want to here it but this is modeled off of an old old SFB scenario that came in the original boxed set calle the coming of the Meteor where a Fed CA goes to stop a giant asteroid from hitting a planet.  When it gets there it Finds a klingon frigate herding the asteroid toward the planet.  In this scenario you could tractor the asteroid and move it.

   I remember the scenario.

The tractor worked, I was able to move the asteriod, it seems you have to be extremly close for it to engage.

The review of SFC will be done before the week is up, I'll make a thread for it when it's up, in case anyone is interested in what a (gasp!!!) pro game reviewer thinks of the game system.
