To what end Cole? Are they going to give me a raise? More power?

Get real.

I appriciate good hard work, especially when it's to keep a community asset operational. (Even after one of our own tried to destroy it.)  Why can't you?

*sigh*

Sign of the times I guess.

To what end????????? I dont know I am not the one brown nosing,You tell me!

LOL!

Takes the first question (which btw was retorical) and throws it back at me while ignoring the answer that was given.

Too funny!

Good night Cole. Find a different patsy. Homey don't play that.

Hey, I'm only repeating what others are saying. If I'm wrong please prove it. In fact I'd love it if it were proven for certain what happened.

My email is cptcastrin@pegicorn.com and a reminder, I don't work for Taldren so if there is more to this than reported it WILL be put up where all can read it (see I have many web sites too).

Only those afraid of the truth refuse to speak it.

I think the other side of this coin has been ignored a lot lately.
That would be assessing the value of a Marketing and PR firm with several hundred employees who work for free.
I don't like the assumption that the forums, all of them, aren't a valuable Taldren asset.  That they give nothing back to Taldren Inc.

Consider what the value of an asset is when it chases off people who would be interested in partnering with Taldren because when they followed the web links to the forum they found vulgarity, profanity, racism and bigotry.  We are truly proud of the over-whelming percentage of the forums that can debate without defacing and have contributions other than the spreading of ill will.

Hence our efforts to keep them alive.

By the way...thank you to those of you who offered the kind words and support. We really needed them.

Hell if I was running a business that had a forum which was a liability, I'd seriously consider axing it...

Have to agree with you there AX.

The OT forum was kind of cool at times but from a business perspective it's really not worth it. There are more than enough forums, to debate the kind of things that are found there, at other sites. These forums should stick to it's core: SFC (et all) and now Black9

Taldren should just axe it IMHO. Especially if it's true that it was the focus of what took the forums down in the first place.

Honestly, Folks. Nothing needs to be axed.

I'm startled by the number of folks who're complaining that they're being asked to communicate in an intellegent manner. I knew a few would find the bar set too high for them to contniue, but I had no idea that instead of 2 or 3 there actually exist 5 or 6 folks who have difficulty communicating without resorting to profanity, slurs, threats, and or other scatological posting proclivity.

Like Castrin, I too would like to thank Ann, Erin, and Lan for putting in the extra effort in making this FREE SERVICE FROM TALDREN work for the rest of us. I hope that eventually you 3 will get as much out of this board as MOST of us other FOUR THOUSAND registered users do.

Best,
Jerry

1. Everyone knows the Taldren forums are free and that people run them for us at their expence.

2. Some people really don't care and will talk trashy and mean and make everyone look bad.

3. Averyone else is very grateful, even if they don't see this thread and comment on it. If the forum were gone tomorrow, even those who take it for granted would recognize how much it meant to them.

We all know these things, but still sometimes it's good to hear people say...

       Thank you!

I must say,  that as long as the new admins are fair and impartial, then those that have brought down the wrath of the new order, have been deserving.  I applaud the new kids on the block for saying ' Dont pollute our streets'.   Its too bad that there had to be such calamity earlier.

Well as they like to say Taldren doesnt have to have a forum and I dont have to be here. All true, I also dont have to ever buy another taldren product again, and I also can tell anyone that tells me they are thinking of buying  a taldren product not to.

Lets see I have bought in the last 4 or 5 yrs....

SFC1

SFCGold

EAW

OP and SFC3

When I got SFC1 I told everyone I knew about it and they all got the game and are still around. If things continue the way they are going I WILL NOT ever do that again for taldren, but I will tell peep about all the patch probs and how they took a dump on the forums.

When the non Taldren moderators were set up there were those who forecast the end of the forums.  The forums survived.  A change in moderation has occured and again the forecast is doom.   Give the new moderators a chance, you may be pleasantly surprised, again.

For a forum to succeed those who disrupt it must be either removed or reformed.  Those who contribute need to be encouraged to stay and protected from those who just cause trouble.  Of course sometimes those who contribute are also the trouble makers, which is where the reforming comes in.  It is a delicate balance and can take time for a new moderator to achieve.

I think that some of the people complaining should try admining a forum for a while.  Like many things it is easy to sit on the side lines and complain but much harder to perform in a way that satisfies your goals and the majority of users.

It isnt a matter of it being hard, its a matter of being good at it.

I dont have to do it to know I can do better.

How do you know it is not hard?  How do you know that you could do it better?   I know from experience that it is much harder than people think.

When  you are a moderator every time you delete or edit a message, thread or member you will be flamed.   You will get everything from insults to death threats.  On the other hand for the very same incident you will be complimented.   It can be very difficult to be fair when the personal attacks start.  Can you keep your cool and moderate without passion but with justice and fairplay?  When you or your personal "sacred cows" get attacked can you be objective and fair?  Can you be fair and consistent when you are sick, hung over or lacking sleep?

How many of our regulars would you trust to moderate?  I would trust very few of them, because few actually have the ability to moderate without the forums becoming a wide open flame fest (then abandoned) or so censored that again they become abandoned.

I Mod the busiest section of a forum with close to 10 thousand members (9953 last time I looked) and what you just described is not nearly as common as you make it out to be...

Just curious: What's the average daily post count and length? And what is the primary focus of this forum you moderate?
