I've been chipping away at missions, trying to make them compatible with EAW and OP, and thought I would take a moment to illicit some possible help.  For a while I've had this whole concept of the Dragon class and the world before she came along.  That's where I'm at in the missions, many years before the Dragon showed up.
So here's the setup:  I'm envisioning a race that is prewarp, yet still traversing the stars in large sublight ships.  In attitude alone, they are alot like the alines from the independance day movie.  They go from system to system in a group of ships surrounding a larger command ship taking hundreds of years to get there.  There are several groups of these aliens, all of which invade systems, habited or otherwise, and strip them of their resources so they can spread further and further.  As I said, these vessels would be pre-warp, and very large, to house millions of beings and also keep them in cryogenic preservation.  The most advanced thing they would have would be their wepaons systems.  The weapons they carried on their vessels would be as powerful or more so than those of the TMP world (movies wise), and the vessels would be armed with more weapons than a fed, rom or klingon ship of equal size.  Obviously, the command ship would be the largest of all, and dwarf a constitution or even an excelsior class vessel.
Anyone have any ideas on how to design ships for these little critters?

Sounds interesting. It would seem then that a good portion of these ships would have to be able to enter atmospheres. In order to conquer other worlds and seeing they can't rely  on any reinforcements.  So I am thinking that the design(s) might want to be a bit more aerodynamic then say the standerd tmp fare.  Kinda has the theme of homeworld a bit. Except in homeworld you were the good guys leaving a wrecked homeworld in colony ships with 600,000 in cryogenic chambers.
In that game they had specialty ships to repair damaged ships, make ships, ion ships, mine layers yadayada.............

Till someone gets to work on this you might look at DarkMatrix's latest thread. He has some homeworld ships converted to SFC.  These are along the line you may want.

Good points.  The catch then is to make some of the smaller ships more elegant and aerodynamic, but not so much sothat they are advanced looking that they should be.  The larger ships, I'm thinking, never enter the atmosphere, they mostly bombarb from space- thus the reason for the uncanny weapons technology over everything else.  True they need troop and air attack ships, but the majority of the work is for thelarger ships bombarding a planetary surface.
Also tru that they'd most likely need a wide variety of support ships.  And one other thought occured to me- starbases.  Thile they do move from system to system, they could be at any given system for years or decades stripping it of all it's resources.  Obviously, they'd need a base to collect and processthe material, and even build new ships. Most likely, these bases would be torn down at the end of their reign on a given system and stripped of their value.

Clark Kent,

If I may be so bold, TheSkinMan?s Leigons (Cybernetic-spider ships that strip other ships/planets apart to make more Leigons) COULD be used for this purpose.

I am REALLY interested in what you mean by making EAW/OP compatible missions. Do you have anything ready? One thing we really need more of is MISSIONS. Not much point in having cool ships without cool missions to play them in. However, these custom missions are BEST when they are written in a way that allows customization (use the Beast Raiders pirate slot for the monster race for example).

Also if you take requests, the SFC1 mission Repair Roundevous and CUSTOM MADE script: The Quantum Factor (energy draining monster mission) would be awesome in OP.

I look forward to seeing what you do next.

Is skinman's site still up?  If so, can you give me a link?  I've lost his sight since my last reinstall of windows.
My mission making is very limited, as I don't know how to program.  I'm using FMSE, and doing my best to weave story and breifings into the limited mission formats available throught the program.  I have around 22 missions that are working for me in EAW, but not in OP, so I'm trying to reconfigure the missions in a way that is more OP friendly.
I think I might be able to convert those missions to SFC2 format, but I'm not sure if they'll work right.

Skinman's site: http://sfc.strategy-gaming.com/leigons/Founders/Models.htm

You can find his Leigons there.

The Sunspider and Wolfspiders are awesome

Best wishes on your script conversion and missions projects.
