Windows XP and SFC: OP
« on: October 07, 2003, 12:50:15 pm »
I was thinking about buying a new computer within the next few months and had read on the forum that folks have been having trouble loading SFC onto their Windows XP equipped computers.

Has a solution been found?

One of the things I'm gonna do is load SFC: OP onto the new computer and then load up some of the ships I got here that I will copy to CDs beforehand.

Thanks in advance!

well i have win xp and sfc2/op and i have no problem with it execpt if i want to play romulan, maybe i need to install another patch, i have 2525 but beside that and the fact that rom are mostly never there or just 1 cargo ship, but the game is working fine, my com is a amd athlon xp, 1533 meg, 228 more or less ram, integrated video card 32 meg, hd of 20 gyg, 12 left (this hd is for sfc ) and a 40 gyg for windows and other stuff, so its working fine and i will add more ram and a bether video card when i got the $$$. but the problem might be just your com.

I have run the sfc series on both home and pro versions of xp and the only problems i have ever  had are after dloading service pack one.So  that packmisnt on here any more. The other problem that i have had is that xp has its own firewall and you will need to shut  that off and run another from someone like zonealarm. The problem io had there was no mater what i did with the firewall short off shutting it off i couldnt play my games online. Other than that i cant think of any thing else i have run into with the games.

That is true, Gamespy/Dynavere doesn't respond well to firewalls... wish I knew what to tell you that hasn't already been said. I ususally dont get to play online becasue I am too chicken to turn off my firewall. Service Pack 1 hasn't seemed to cause me any problems, mine were again because of either the sorry Windows built-in firewall or my own.

on a side note- if you have the money, you alos might consider buying either a remote or (like mine) a remote plug-n-play hard drive with its own power source. That 80 GB sucker has saved my neck several times over... anything at all I get I want to keep, I just run it over to there.....
it cannot be scanned (while its off, and even when its on, next to impossible...), it can be encrypted without fudging up any programs... and, since it wouldn't have an operating system on it, it wouldn't need to be defragmented but once every blue moon, just for good order and file integrity.
