Anyone interested in a large scale battle?
« on: February 09, 2003, 10:27:04 pm »
This battle is larger then what you can even get with 6 players with full AI surport on Dynivurse.  Only battles larger that I've seen were in Armada and then it still didn't have the same appeal.  Now Klingon Acadmy might too.

But for massive scale, go thru the Fed campaigne the final mission....lets see.

Fed ship total: 2 Sovey's, each with 2 surport ships, you with 2  surport (9 at least here)

Klingon: 1 neg'vour with 2 surport (3 at least here)

Romulin: 2 star base's, 4 defense stations, 8 war birds each with 1 surport ship (22 at least here)

----------

Mind you this all that I saw....for one Klingons had an engament with ships while fed went to stations, so what the mix up Klingon and Rom at start not sure.

Damn... I'm still stuck on assaulting the first Tal Shiar C&C facility - and I thought that was hard!

Any tips?

Try to keep friendly ships in a condenced mass, more fire power on one target faster it goes down.  And the sooner you take it down...the less damage gets spread to the freindly units.  Try to take out the bigger or more dangerise targets first, they take more beating which is beat when the friendly are in high number and for the most part untouched.  Being as the radar will be crammed with units...zooming it some will be need for targeting units around you wit clicking them on the screen, pluse it's nice for attacks of opertuneity (opens up, click fire, go back to main target).  Don't fly around at max speed, your turning gets reduced..try for 1/2-3/4 for best turning.

The finel three mission I had a fully decked Sovy (didn't change much, just added a Q torp and 2 pluse phasers, beafed up what was there).

I have found a way that might get more than 6 ships in a dyna battle. Not entirely sure though, but if you have 2 wingmen, and you get someone else with 2 wingmen to attack someone at the same time you could all end up in the same battle. One fleet leader selects to attack, then while it counting down another fleet leader must also opt to attack the same target, then both fleets appear in battle together. I'm not sure what the limitations are with this, but you can surely see that it opens up some options for the always numerous but often rookie quality feds. In the opening strokes of a game two fed players in their Norways, each with two friends, could start taking down starbases and planets right away. Thus these feds would be getting access to the bigger ships long before the other less staffed races.

I?m sure there are feds out there who are quite skilled with their ships and wouldn?t need this but since fed has historically had the most players then they will also have the most rookies. As well as those players who only really have a casual interest in the game and only play once in a while.

Yes, in dynavers only the players are counted as the limet not the wingman...the wingman are counted with the player.

6 players + (2 *6) = 18

Still onyl near half of what was in the final Fed campinge mission.

Nine ships on one side, damn!   Just think if nine feds got together with q-torp chucking Norway class ships! Two or Three volleys would have a cube running home to mommy! A starbase would be little more than a snack for 18 quantum torpedoes! I guess we can only hope that no one gets wise enough to coordinate all that. Though I doubt many would want to get involved, it would lag like all hell!
