Mirrored Universe Question
« on: October 06, 2003, 02:12:03 am »
In the mirrored universe they have ships the question is what colours should they be?
A general black or dark hull with red Highlights is one Idea, but it doesn't actually give the ship any sinister character and generally just makes it harder to see in the game. Red glows help the issue but again the dark hull seems less effective. Now in the TOS series where this all began the only thing that changed were the symbols on the ship and the ISS name.

So what colours should they be?
Black/Gray with red glows/lit parts
Black/Red with red glows/lit parts
Standard/Red with red glows/lit parts

should there be glows at all or lit parts?

Any ideas or suggestions?

Hmm, from a strictly non-playing point of view I'd say keep it like it was in the episode and not change the hull colours or glows at all. If it is a mirror universe then it should be a mirror copy of ours for the most part, with only 1 or 2 variables changed....which of course affect everything else...lol, oh well I thought it made sense to me!

Of course then again, that might be hard to differentiate between ingame, but oh well!

Hey Captain:

If you're looking for a good starting point, you might want to check out Tiberious Station. If you're not familiar with it, this site is all about the Mirror Universe. The models section has a number of models, most of which are pre-TOS or TOS Terran Empire, and one TMP mirror Enterprise. They have a constant color scheme (dark hull, red navigational deflector, etc.).

Hello Captain Ron,

This a is great topic,
thank you very much for bringing it up,

Tiberus Station link

This is the best collection of Mirror Universe starships,
Thing is you may take flak for the "purists" here,
They probably bemoan that the Terran Empire no longer exists,
and the Mirror Universe Klingon/Cardassian Alliance has conquered it,

Yep,
they have, but "what the hell",
I say make 'em anyways,

Take care, and best wishes,
Agent Sloan

Thanks for finding the link, Agent Sloan.

I've been trying to locate the site this morning myself.

Hello Kaenyne,

You're welcome, glad to be of service man,
Us "Section 31" folkes can be handy, now and then,

BTW,
Kaenyne,
the first starship is a Mirror Pneumonic81 Enterprise-A,
its TOP-NOTCH, and well worth the download,
the textures are breathtaking

Take care,
Agent Sloan

Oh yeah, I'm well aware of this site. Someone pointed out this site many moons ago and I fell in love with all the ships. It was very early in my model collecting days so I really flipped out when I saw the stuff. I D/L'd ALL of 'em right away and my favorite is the Enterprise by P81. I also really like the Asia. I didn't know at the time that most of these evil beauties were based on works at Starfleet Museum. (Another great site).

I even bugged Captain Ron about making a Terran Empire Galahad Class based off the color scheme of the Tiberius Station ships, which he did quite nicely (which I am very grateful for). I'm LOVE to see what he has planned for his next ships....

Hello Kaenyne,

Yep, I fell in love with the Mirror Universe stuff too,
I downloaded 'em all last year,

ISS Enterprise A

I really enjoy flying a swarm of ISS Enterprise-As' against those Dominion Capitol starships,
I kinda picture the Dominion Vorta Commanders gonna "What the #### is that!"

Take care,

Wouldn't that be cool to see on T.V.: A fleet Mirror Enterprise Class ships taking on the Dominion.

I think even the Klingons would be nervous if they spied them on their viewscreens.

OK, I have to weigh in on this?

The Mirror Universe Imperials at Tiberius Station are a GREAT place to start.

After seeing the DS9 episodes where the Klingon-Cardassian alliance had already crushed the Imperials, I decided that it would be really cool if an alternate universe existed where the Imperials did not fall.

I figured in my corner of the Trek Universe, the Imperials go on the offense. To me that means more homogenous ship designs with a maximum emphasis on armor and power. Homogenous ship designs means faster repair times, better uses of limited resources and ultimately eases the logisitical problems involved with deploying fleets. This in turn represents a major departure from the Federation?s variety of hodge-podge of explorer type ships. I even figured that IF the V?Ger and Whale Probe attacks also happened in the mirror universe this would have been a wake up call for them. Then again, these incidents might not have happened in the mirror universe at all. In any event, I believe that by TMP era a new Imperial warship design philosophy would have been developed. P81?s USS Odyssey and USS Explorer and most of the kitbashes of them fit the bill IMHO. I also like the idea of P81?s FCX and FDX being in the Imperial inventory. Besides, there?s not much sense in having cool Federation or Klingon ships unless you have equally cool adversaries to play against?

This freed me to use the USS Churchill (Anarion) as my FCX and to use the Loknar Refit USS Phobos (Fabio/Makotokat/Lt. Riley) as my FDX. It also allows me to use other TMP Federation ships I otherwise wouldn?t normally play.

Qapla!

I like the way you think, KF.

I'd say the Terran Empire would do much of what you say, with bigger equalling better, which means they would have developed larger and better armed atarships than their Federation counterparts decades earlier. Perhaps the X technology of SFC would than debut much earlier as a result.

Which brings up a question: What do P81?s FCX and FDX look like?

I know about the U.S.S. Odyseey and U.S.S. Explorer (Mackie's Galahad class?) and the Excalibur, but not the other two ships above.

If you have SFC:OP then you already have them.
There use to be variants that did not make it into the game but they are gone since his site is no more. I don't know if anyone posted them at other sites.

Hmmm...FCX and other variants you say.

I like to get my paws on 'em...

Anybody out there have them in their collections?

I think that WZ's OSF starships should be noted here- great designs, and definately fit into what's being asked for.

Oh yes, the OSFs cannot be overlooked. They definately have the look of Terran Empire starships (even if they may not be). This ship look really nice flying alongside Tiberious Station's I.S.S. Enterprise and Asia.

(Wonder if WZ will expand his OSF fleet....)

I just remembered something else:

We have WillardDcker's two Terran Empire Constitutions to look forward to. He posted some pics of his first version and mentioned a second would be a "Royal" type. Too cool!

Maybe he'll tease us with some more WIP pics soon (hint, hint)

Yes they are great designs and very creative but I see them more as pirate ships rather then Terran Imperial ships
