Topic: OP v2.5.5.0 runs on desktop ok but CTD on my laptop. Anyone else?

Hi, all.

OP used to run fine on my laptop, but after patching to 2.5.5.0, SFC won't load.  Won't even get to the "LOADING" screen.  A couple of windows flash open extremely briefly on the desktop, the screen goes black for a couple seconds, then back to desktop.  The laptop is plenty powerful, and could run the previous OP without difficulty.  It's using XP.

My desktop isn't having any problems at all! (Thanks, Dave).

I just need my portable SFC OP fix.  I need it bad, man!

I would start by looking at what else is running on your laptop, and see if ending some of those processes fixes it. Otherwise it gets awkward and you have to wonder about trying 2000 compatibility and such.

I can't even get OP to install on my laptop.  EAW and SFC3 will but not OP.

Turn off your antivirus software while you do the installation.

Solved it. I'll just post here for the general info.

Apparently, the resolution was set too high for the laptop, so it would simply crash out.  By reducing resolution, runs fine.  Thanks again for the help.

Interesting. I expected the usual "forgot to remove old saved games" issue..

Nope. Didn't forget that.  Also had the right shortcut on the desktop.

It was simply a resolution problem.  At least it now enters the collective database of Orion Pirates workarounds.  Just for the record, on anyone who might stumble across this thread via a SEARCH, my laptop specs are as follows:

Toshiba Satellite P25-S507
P4, 2.8GHz
512MB RAM
NVIDIA GeForceFX Go5200 w/ 32MB VRAM
17" Wide XGA Color display

Now for more Portable SFC OP.
