SFB and SFC
« on: October 04, 2003, 02:35:56 pm »
WARNING : Tthat is a Crazy question.

SFC ship are more resilient to damage than their SFB counterpart as it take 2 points to destroy a system in SFC against 1in SFB.
I wonder if it is possible to make a modification / patch / (other possibilities) to make the system work like in SFB. I know and understand the reason behind the decision of interplay. But me and my partner would prefer something closer to the original game even if that mean to play at speed 1or 2.

Thanks to anyone who care answering the message from space........

You can't go all the way with making ships take damage as they would in SFB, but you can get closer than you currently are.

Systems such as hull, lab, armor, security, etc. can be cut in half in the shiplist.  Then they reflect how they would take damage in SFB.  It does make your ships a lot more fragile, and makes receiving an alpha-strike more dangerous.  Disruptors become better sniping weapons.  No one wants to walk through plasma anymore.

Systems such as power, weapons, and shuttles can't really have their numbers halved, for obvious reason, so there is only so much you can do..

I've done this with a few ships myself, and it is a lot of fun.  There used to be a full shiplist floating around that had performed this process to all the stock ships.  (No, I don't still have it.  But someone might.)

Closest approximation would be to halve systems like hull, cargo, repair and any other non-useful components. Leave weapons, power and possibly lab as they are though.

So did SFC(The First One) have single internals because ships really light up like a christmas tree when you hit 'em with a plasma R, or overloaded photons, or suicide fusions, or disruptors...wait scratch that last one

IIRC SFC I had single internals, but doubled shields.

I believe patch 1.03(what I'm using now)  added half shileds. I started played it again going through the single player campaigns. I liked how each empire had its own menu music and graphics.
