five minute ship request - new C7
« on: October 04, 2003, 01:29:39 pm »
Just got back from uni yesterday and have been enjoying a downloading frenzy and now I have a new K'T'inga but unfortunately Atra's C7 looks kinda lame coz of the Moonraker K'T'inga it was based on. Basically could someone redo the C7 - possibly Atra as you did the original anyway - using WZ's K'T'inga, that would be so classic, end of appeal, the suns burning my eyes - that's not a vampire joke btw, it's a student one

Why on earth does Moon's Ktinga look lame? It looks great imo.

Hmm, must be a personal preference thing. I honestly prefer the current c7/moonraker coloring over WZ's ktinga. Wz's is a lighter color. Equally well done, but I like the darker ones. They look sweet when reflecting of bridge commaders red or orange suns.

Yeah it's a preference thing I guess, I didn't particularly care for the textures which are so obviously taken from a cgi mesh of the K'T'inga, I think it was from the now defunct ST Magazine, also WZ's has a nicer mesh than moons, Moon's K'T'ingais still great but it's several years old now and that's an eternity in game modding terms. My only complaint about WZ's K'T'inga is that he could have spent a few more polies on the boom which is rather angular at the connection to the engineering hull, oh and he made me spend a few minutes greying out all the romulan version's textures (which are green - evil green!)

Actually Moon's version uses shots of the K'tinga studio models for it's textures (with extensive modifications of course). The only major downside to this is, you can't get any hi-res detail out of them as the original pictures are fairly small.

Heh, I love it when people gripe about the darkness/lightness of a ship's textures when anyone with a 5 cent paint program can easily change them to their liking

I painted mine in a light green (yes, the K'tinga is in fact green, just not as ghoulish as the stock KCA) because that's how I preferred it and how it would essentially look without the complex lighting used in TMP. But of course everyone has their own preferences.

Back to the topic at hand - VL, if it means anything, I've had an idea for a K'tinga variant floating around in my decaying skull for a long time and it probably would make a nice C7 whenever I get the thing finished.

BTW, why didn't you just slap the textures from my Rom D7 onto the Rom K'tinga? They were already gray

coz there are numerous differences in the details, the least of which being the big patterns all over the engineering hull, plus my considerably more than 5 cent paint program made it very easy to do. I look forward to seeing whatever u cook up in regards to the C7, though obviously I'd still like to see a version similar to Atra's as it really looked the part IMO. See - that's what u get for letting your insides decay instead of remaining eternally young LOL

I've seen those shots before in concepts by Raven but I was always under the impression they were of a CGI given that the studio model hasn't existed since 1990 when it would have been repainted to make that dreadful Qo'noS Wa' version from ST:VI.

What, they didn't have color film before 1990?

Somehow I really doubt a CGI model would look that realistic - even the CG Federation ships haven't pulled that off. At any rate, if the textures weren't made from studio model shots they were definately made from pics of someone's K'tinga.

Now, you were saying something about my decaying insides?

It would seem paramount didn't as the only studio photos I ever found of the Enterprise in it's original pearlescent look were B&W and so were the K'T'inga photos I found

Oh and I think a bit of your liver dropped onto the floor, wouldn't want anyone to trip up on it now would we? LOL

Oh crap! Yes, I did, umm, I'm sure that I can be of some help, although I don't have much practice at non-Fed texturing...I am muddling along with a Klingon attempt nowish!
I need a kick up the arse to do anything, apologies for not replying sooner
..And yup I'm in oxford, I only go to Brookes though, not a "proper" Oxford Uni! hehe - they refer to us Brookes denizens as patrons of the ELC - The Early Learning Centre lol

No color shots of the big K'tinga you say? Oh ye of little faith.

http://employees.csbsju.edu/rsorensen/modelcitizen/trekships/klingons/index.html

Of course, there's nothing that says this is the real original Paramount K'tinga (mainly because I've always been a skeptical sob) but it's a fairly safe bet it is at least a version built by the FX department somewhere along the way.

LOL - no worries man, was just worried you'd never read it. you can always talk to atolm and my contact info was given in the pm, I'm sure you'll do a great job judgeing from your feds and the klingon I've seen. One thing, they're TMP ships but given it's a new species it'll make no difference.
