Paramount's way of Casting Captains?
« on: February 10, 2003, 05:42:15 am »
Do you KNOW which show had both Captain Sisko from DS9, and Captain Janeway from Voyager, along with an ST:TNG cast memeber?

I found it insane at how all three of these people were in a show before DS9 and Voyager ever came about, and wondered if this show was something that Paramount looked at.

In a 1988 movie which tried to work it's way off of the 'Roots' miniseries, 'Roots:  The Gift' had Levar Burton, Avery Brooks, and whatever her name was that starred as Captain Janeway, all as pretty major players in it.  Coincidence?

Most likely not, since Kate Mulgrew (Janeway) was a last minute walk-on for that role, the woman they had cast as Janeway walked off the set in disgust two days into shooting.  (now theres professionalism for you)  Fortunatly they were able to find Mulgrew, or Voyager would have been set back at least half a season as they would have had to recast the majority of the parts (make a female chakotay...etc.)

In Gargoyles, Riker (Frakes) is Zanatos, the series bad guy and Troi (Sirtis) is Demona.

When that cartoon first came out I was trying to remember where I had heard those voices before and
when the had a tv segment on them doing the voice-overs for the series, it clicked!

I wonder what other animated series the TNG cast has done?

Tim Russ also played a bridge officer in the Enterprise B sequence of Generations

and the guy who played Paris in Voyager was in one of the TNG episodes, the one where that accident in the starfleet acadamy happened, where Wesley took part in an illegal move or something

I'd read somewhere that the guy that played Tuvok had tried out for the part of Jordi LaForge, but Lavar Burton got the part instead.

When you hear things like that, it is hard to imagine anyone else playing that role.  We are so used to what that person's character has become over the years, how could it be anyone else

Tuvok was also in a TNG Episode, when the Enterprise was emptied for some kind of an automated "cleaning" (involving lethal radiation), and Terrorists had entered to take something to use for WMDs (quick, sic the UN Inspectors on 'em).  Tuvok was one of the terrorists.

As to Paris being in the TNG episode, it was not just the actor, it was the character.  Remember, he was un prison at the start of Voyager (it seems that he couldn't keep out of trouble).

Tim Russ was also a klingon in the DS9 episode where Dax's Symbiont was stolen (I think it was that one anyway, I know he's played a klingon)

As for animated stuff, I know micheal dorn has done one series (dunno what) and Levar Burton was doing things in that hippie Captain Planet show.

I've also noticed Roxann Dawson's voice appear as a computer once or twice on Enterprise (co-incidently in eps she directed)

Actually, no.  It was rumored that they were going to be the same character before Voyager began, but legal issues made them change the name from Nick Locarno to Tom Paris, hence becoming a different character.

As for Gargoyles, I believe both Dorn and Spiner also lent their voices to the show.

Does anybody remember the commercial George Takei was in for E-trade.  It was for a movie called Blow'd Up, not real, though I've seen a sight where he thought it was real.  Anyways, here's a link to the site with the commercial.
