This is one of the reasons that I never seriously considered getting a Mac. I like how the OS is extremely stable and they make some really good stuff. I just don't like how there isn't that much software for it. I'm a business student and need to use things like MS Project, Visio sometimes, the other Office Apps and other software programs that aren't made for the Mac. I know people who use Macs for school but they usually have to use the school's PCs to do certain things.

The other reason is the cost. Macs are mostly proprietary systems with no real competition to help drive down the cost. Because of this, I can get a comparable, or more than comparable PC system for less.

Just FYI.. why stick with mac when their software developement is stagnant... anything coming out for PC usually takes 2 years to make it to Mac currently and as such, the software is outdated.. unless it is Mac created software from scratch like the OS software or Quicktime player..

I use to love Mac's, but when i switched over to a P II years ago, the software available for PC at that time was mind boggeling... now it is hard for me to even consider going Mac at all due to them not having any software that suits my purpose..

It of course depends on your purpose.

1) MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT, Entourage) works as well (if not better) than the PC counterpart.
2) No current (4.0 was the last) MS Project. FastTrack is a Mac planner that can read Project MPP files.
3) Games. Yup, if you are a bigtime gamer, there are more and the newest games on PC

In my experience (PC & Macs at home & work) there are more PC programs, but I've NEVER been unable to do something that did not have an equivalent Mac software. There is more selection in PC-land, but the programs that exist for Mac tend to be more select and more robust. However, if you HAVE to use some SPECIFIC program (MS Project comes to mind), you must go PC.

For video editing and DVD burning, stock Macs kick serious butt. Period.

Remember too that Mac now has unix underneath. Terminal and makefiles anyone?

Let's play a game shall we? Give me your PC purpose, and I'll tell you how and if it can be done on Mac.

I own one. I do most of my mundane stuff on it. Office, web, etc. But I have a PC also, so I don't run games on it, except for the simpler ones. WingNuts, Pocket Tanks, popcap stuff.

Mac OS X has some OS-hosting subsystems built right in, which is why it can share the desktop with OS 9. I have heard that VirtualPC isn't too bad. It contains a PC-on-a-card. With it, you can run Windows XP in a window on your OS X desktop. I looked at it a while back. It'll set you back almost 200 to get the card with the bundled XP. It ought to be able to run SFC2/OP. If you research it and find out for sure, I'd like to know.

Oh, my bad. VirtualPC is the one that is purely an emulator, but it can emulate PC hardware...

My first computer in the 80's was a Mac SE/30.  I had always owned Macs exclusively until SFC1 came out.  I bought my first PC for that game.  I researched both the Mac PC cards and the Virtual PC emulator software.  I found that the card was so expensive that I might as well buy the PC and I found that Virtual PC did not perform well with high end graphics.....hence I bought a Gateway PC.

I had always had the latest Mac before SFC, but now I have enough money to own BOTH, so I do.

When I built my house a few years ago I pre-wired a Brinks OnQ LAN network and amplified video system into it.  I have a networked computer and T.V. in every bedroom and in the office / bonus room.

At least one of these computers will always be a Mac because I grew up with them and will always love them.

I've tried it on my 867MHz G4. It runs on VirtualPC, but too slowly to be playable. Don't even think about flying Mirak...
I'd try on my work G5, but I heard VPC has problems with the latest hardware.
