I am Rogue NineCH, and I finally admit it.  I have become a LOTR fanatic.  When I was a kid I used to poke fun at the kids who read LOTR, I called them names and took their books when they weren't looking(I wasn't a nice kid growing up).  I decided to go see "The Fellowship of the Ring" because I was bored and had nothing else to do that night.  I came out very impressed with movie but still not that big of a fan.   Then "The Two Towers" came out, and I was blown away, but still not a huge fan of LOTR yet. The release of TTT on DVD finally won me over, I have watched that movie several times now, as well as the Extended Edition of FOTR.  I even bought the $70 version with the two statues.  Now I have watched the trailer fot "Return of the King" more times than I will ever admit to anyone.  Last night my G/F was teasing me about watching those movies and the trailer so much and that's when I realized I am an LOTR fanatic.  For some reason my G/F thinks it's cute,  I guess it's true what they say when you're in love you see everything through rose colored glasses.

Perhaps you can find time to ACTUALLY read the books.... It'll be worth it.....

I decided awhile back that I would start on the books after ROTK comes out,  I wanna see the movie first.  I already have the books so it's no rush.

Good idea to read the books then watch the film, so you can shout when your watching the film "oi! that never happened" or "thats meant to be at the beginning" or "hey they missed that out the $(")$"

And then start talking to people in the know about Glorfindel, Tom Bombadil et al.....

Though I DO confess to be extremely impressed by Mr Jackson's efforts... He's done about the best job that anyone could've imagined of bringing the "unfilmable" to life...

Plus, now he can sit around on his arse for the rest of his life if he wants...

And then complain why he doesnt bring the truly unfilmable "The Silmarillion" to the big screen.

Somehow I think that "The Hobbit" would be easier than "The Silmarillion"......

I think the one thing that fans of the books need to remember is that movies are never as good as the book, it is just simply not possible to do so.  "The Sum of all Fears", "The Hunt for Red October", "Along Came a Spider", and "Kiss the Girls" were all very good movies, but the books are far better.

I wonder how he will do with King Kong, the last remake sucked.

One more thing about the stuff in the LOTR books that was left out in the movies, I read a "Foxtrot" comic strip awhile back that was spoofing the filming of the trilogy, in it Jason was griping about certain things that were not in the script and Jackson replies "If we included everything that happened in the books we would have a 40 hour movie!"  The screenplay writers had a near impossible job to say the least, write a story from three timeless books and make it appeal to the hardcore LOTR fans and the general public as well.

Let's give Jackson some credit, FOTR is actually a better film than it is a book. Upon reading FOTR, there is only one thing you want to do - Kill Tom Bambadil. Thankfully, the latter half of FOTR manages to save the book, and of course, TT & ROTK are quite possibly the finest books ever written.

Keep in mind I am going strictly on what books I have read and then seen the movies.  As far as the movies go, I have not been blown away by a film since I saw Titanic. The previous poster said Jackson has brought a trilogy that many considered unfilmable to life in an extraordinary effort, and I think, aside from some hardcore LOTR fans, most people agree.  I am watching the documentaries that are on the DVDs and it is mind-boggling how much work has gone into making this trilogy, also the number of people involved in making these movies.
