Maybe.. but I still haven't heard back yet on how I can eliminate all the other crap.. and for the record, still can't stand the new look.  Before I login I get subjected to it, and still irritates me everytime I see it.

Bumping this.. *still* haven't heard anything.  Is there any information on ubbThreads that I can read up on in order to *try* and make this a reality for me?  This has gotten to the point that it's starting to interfer with my posting.  I'm simply getting to the point of not wanting to come around here with it looking like it is and without receiving any kind of response from those that can actually *do* anything about it.

I think you can get rid of the avatars and sigpics by going to your preferences section and down at the bottom are some checkboxes allowing(or disallowing) picture files from your view.

That's not the issue.. that was already addressed.  I've disabled avatars already, and the sigs were enabled on the old forums, so that's stayed the same.  What I want to do is disable or remove the stupid chunky white lines around everything, or to be able to turn that color to black for myself so that I can't see it.  Then it'll be close to the old look...

It's not a very difficult thing to ask, and having the white lines around everything makes me feel like I'm still in kindergarten.  If I'm too dense to know when a message ends and another one begins, then white lines around the message isn't going to help me figure it out.

But I'm now at the point that I'm considering not posting full messages anymore, just links to topics elsewhere... and that's primarily because this is a simple issue, and if you notice when I started asking this question and the responses to date, you can see that color configuration hasn't been addressed so far (and the thread is now almost two months old).

The lines are only adjustable on Taldren's end and many people (read majority) wanted them. You seem to be expending a lot of energy over something as minor as how the forum looks. I'd hate to see your blood pressure on important real life problems.

Minor for you (and are you with Taldren?) maybe.  Not minor for me.

Want you to think of something here.  I started modding SFC in December 2001 thanks to my reading the Models forums here at Taldren.  I didn't generally read anything anywhere else.  I learned all my basic skills here, and have enjoyed my time here immensely.  I came here first thing in the morning, got in here first thing after work, and learned-learned-learned.  Darkdrone, anduril, p81, Lord Vader, -LB-,  maggot, Lord Schtupp, TheStressPuppy and moonraker were the people that I learned from by viewing their work and trying to figure it out.

Now, imagine this situation.

You walked into your work enviornment one day and found out that, with no warning, the higher-ups had decided to take your easy to understand and use work enviornment...and replace all the lighting with strobe lights, paint the walls bright garish pink, make you hang a plaque around your neck with your picture on it, and they were going to paint dead body chalk outlines around everybody's work station.  And then told you to deal with it.  And then walked away. Wouldn't you find that a little hard to handle?  That's pretty well what was done here in my opinion.

Also, how do you *know* that the majority wanted these changes?  I don't remember a discussion ever happening in the Models forum, so noone there was consulted if they didn't read the General Forum.  I'm willing to bet that all the other forums were treated in a similar fashion.  So that should be: "(read majority) [in the General Forum]".  And exactly how many other forums are there here?  More than just one other.  And did that self-same majority sign you up as their personal spokestoken?
And how do you know that

?  Was the new UBBThreads set up or configured by you?

You're basically saying... don't make waves.  This is over and done with, and now you have to live with it.  Why?  I'm asking (and there are others who feel the same way that I do) that there be some form of toggle, or a color configuration screen, to either remove those lines, or else turn them black.  Everything else can be toggled off, or removed (such as avatars, etc).

As for my blood pressure, that's a whatever issue.  Seeing you're bringing up my "real life problems" (and thanks for the nice little personal jibe there, appreciated it), in the last year they have included two moves (over 500 miles), the death of my father, serious family conflicts with my wife's family, meeting my adopted-out sister for the first time, starting three jobs, leaving two, and generally walking on the edge.  I deal with it.  One of the ways that I deal with it is to work on models.  It's stable, it's relaxing, and generally I can take things on in the program and tame it and release something that makes me feel good.  Taking the old forums out put a burr under my saddle that I can't fix until I can get things back to the way that they were for looks.  Or I leave altogether.

I'm not asking that the *old* forums be put back in if there are security issues with them.  But the only reason I ever read was that the HD was getting full.  If they're staying with the new forums, then simply giving people like myself the option for a "classic look" is all I'm asking for.  And right now, that's basically just adding in a color configuration routine to a php(?) script that might store two more hex digits in a userfile.

I'm in Fond Du Lac.

atheorhaven, noone made me a spokesperson. All I'm saying is you are the only one here making a stink about white lines. When the new forums were first put up there were no lines. Everyone complained (I'm sorry you don't visit the general forum but maybe you should to get GENERAL news on things) so Taldren coded the lines in. If you really want to know if there is something you can do to change it then perhaps an e-mail to Taldren might help. As I said you are the only one I know of who has complained about this and it really is a very minor thing in the whole scheme of things. As for you personal life I truly am not interested, I'm sorry for what you have gone through but my point was that if you get this worked up over lines on a new forum board (which BTW I particularly like this new set-up over the old as I'm sure many other do) then I'd hate to see you with major stuff. If as you said you dealt with all the other stuff in real life then this should be nothing.

I'm through here, just thought I'd give my opinion. I don't speak for the board or Taldren. Since Taldren is the one who turned on the lines and other features I assumed only they have control of it. Maybe there is something they can do in the options settings.

I like the forum the way it is.  It is very nice and well organized.

I doubt they are going to change anything for one person atheorhaven.

They hadn't.. but I've fixed it myself.  It just took five months, and I wish that I had been reading the General forum then, I'd have thanked them.

I still don't read the General forum though, because frankly.. that's not why I'm here.  I'm here to work on ships, to learn skills, and to work on modifying this game to be something better, or simply different.  If I want to read the latest word on how Big Bad King George II is justified in this or that, I'll go elsewhere.  Frankly, don't care about that.  I started off reading the General Forum, just like everyone else.  And when I kept getting directed to the modelling forums, I moved over there and have rarely looked back to the General Forums at all.  So mentioning that I should've been reading the General Forums before this all came up.. uh, why?  Been there, done that, got directed elsewhere, went elsewhere, had no indication of changes until after they had happened.

At any rate, it's dealt with now.. I fixed it myself.
