The patch has been sent to activison and from what I hav eread it is in the approval and test process on their part.  WHO cares if they blss it or not. Dave Ferrel has approved it so thats good enuf for me and the rest fo the community.

Activision has pulled the games formt he websites. Pulled the servers in the Dynaverse-I hear-I play patched- and are intrenched in a legal struggle that will not end anytime soon sot her eis no guarantee that it will ever be approved int he first place.

We have a beta patch now...why cant we have another one?  and if it turns out to be the final one SO be it.............

We dont need their blessing   release it...

AND  if we do get this final beta patch we can TELL you what the new or unfixed issues are so you CAN FIX it.......

We are tired of this....and are moving on in droves.......

The only thing keeping most of us on are the excellent mods by Korah and Pelican that has a large player base and rabid forum support.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE release the patch NOW

we need good news right now.

Maybe Taldren could secretly add a bunch of new BETA Testers

The last Beta that Taldren released without Activision's permission, Activision sent out copright infringement notices within an hour and also threatened lawsuit against Taldren and all the people running mirrors, including 3rd party people who immediately were notified about the Beta Release and mirrored it.. talking about gaming patch sites.... all mirrors came down within 24 hours after release of the Beta due to Activision having all the rights to the game...

now if Activision gave Taldren permission to release a Beta version, or just gave Taldren patching rights, then all would be good, but currently Taldren has their hands tied.. however Activision has stated that once all the bugs are fixed to their satisfaction, then it will get QA'd and released.

just letting  you know.

Too little, too late I'm afraid...  SFC 3 sales are floundering, and the fan base is dwindling...  Check out the prices for the game on ebay(1$ to 12$).  That pretty much tells the story.  Sorry to be negative, but I will be surprised if there is another game released after all is said and done...  I guess we will just have to enjoy what we have.  OP rules!!!

Hmm is it possible for Taldren to hire a lot of people for Beta testing for free, say like most people who own a copy or would this fall under copyright as well?

Sorry but I'm very ignorant of copyright laws.

Well, legally we'd all have to sign a bunch of documents, we'd all be listed as taldren employees, that'll raise some tax issues just to start, also it would be viewed by the gaming world in general as pretty underhanded.

Look, much as it pains us, we really *do* have to wait for activision.

Actually this is untrue... All that is needed is Taldren wanting Beta Test members and people volenteering to do Beta Testing.. however, you have to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) which basically means that you can not communicate information to anyone outside the Testers Forum concerning fixes or features in the patch unless otherwise previously given permission in writing by Taldren or if a Taldren Employee first states it in a public forum.. however Details of the information still have to remain vague, and only basic info can be given....

As a Beta Tester, you recieve either files to DL and replace the game engine or other files being looked into and replacing those specific files in your game... some Beta patches are not auto installs, some are manual file replacements...

you would also have to be able to have Dual installs or even tripple installs of 1 game on your system in order to properly test the different builds in both the Patch to Patch upgrade and the Full Version patch (small patch file and large patch file).

This is just typical to have for example OP on my system 3 times.. 1 with official patch version, 1 out of box with full beta patch applied, then 1 with beta patch applied to Official patch...

this way all versions can be checked and verified that they are completely compatible and are functioning correctly and that the fixes are consistant between builds and patching methods...

as for getting into Beta Testing.. that is up to Taldren to decide...

also FYI, being a Beta Tester doesn't mean getting paid.. I don't think any of the Beta Testers get paid.. i know I don't.. i do it out of love for SFC and Trek in general, and as a bonus, i get to see the game evolve from the inside out and get a lot of satisfaction when I find something and in the released patch it is fixed...

Also, i get the added boon of playing against other Beta Testers with a version of SFC that no one else has and comparing notes on if the fixes work and/or if it seems unbalancing....

However, this leaves me sometimes unable to compete effectively when i go back and play the Official Patch Version as I tend to forget that a feature is not yet fixed/modified and thus leaving myself in a jam...

I got into Beta Testing by Emailing David Ferrell... Currently, with David not being with Taldren anymore, I don't know who would be in charge of assigning Beta Testers.... maybe Firesoul or ToastyO or Frey or Castrin could let you know... but i currently don't...

anyhow, I hope that some of this information helps.. I don't know if Activision has a limit on the number of Beta Testers or not or if Taldren does or not.. it is an enigma to me on that end...

I do know that Activision was not happy last year about Taldren internally testing SFC 3 patches, however they did not make us stop testing...

This much is true. Unless there has been a recent change my understanding is that things now await ATVI's blessing. If they come up with a "concern" that hinders the release of an official patch then I speculate--and I do mean that I am speculating--that a pow-wow will have to occur over any new "concerns".

Just to clarify--Beta Testers are not employees. At best, we are like production assistants on a movie set. If any of you have any experience with movie making you'll understand exactly what that entails.

Oh? Sorry, my mistake. I thought you legally qualified as 'employees' even though you aren't paid. Very well then, the rest is true (the tax concerns being as taldren's employee population booming, so that no longer applies). We'd all have to sign non-disclosure documents (essentially shutting down these forums, really), and it WOULD be seen as rather underhanded to hire a beta tester for each person who owns the game just to circumvent activision. Certainly, if I was an executive at a company like interplay or microsoft's gaming section (coughcoughblack9cough), I'd look down on something like that.

I think our eager beta testers missed that part. He's implying that we declare 'everyone' as beta testers to get around activision.

Couldn't Taldren have an open beta?

Again, Taldren tried that last Feb and the Open Beta was ordered by Activision to come down due to Right and Copyright and Liscense infringement which could possibly lead to lawsuits against anyone hosting a mirror and further legal action against Taldren for releasing any sort of patch, Beta, Open Beta or otherwise without thier (Activision's) explicit written permission..

so sorry, Open Beta is not an option unless Activision decides to give Taldren authorization to do so, and as of yet to my understanding, Activision has not, nor do they intend to do so.. they want to keep any and all rights to their games under lock and key...

My appologies to everyone waiting for the SFC 3 patch... I myself think it is long overdue, but like i keep stating.. Taldren's hands are tied and the entire ball of wax is in Activisions court.. Until they decide to get to work on it, SFC 3 patch release is on hold, even though we keep working to improve the patch when it does get released...

No, we are not Taldren Employees, but some of us are in contact with Taldren Employees quite often, when they are available. We are the next closest thing to being Taldren Employees. and probably the one's being benifitted the most where we are by getting to do nothing but playing the game looking for ways to break it so that fixes can be made.. some things do get by us.. but at least we try quite hard to find as much as possible...

I don't want to be too negative here, and I know it's old hat, but this really is putting the wagon before the horse.

This mess wouldn't even be here if the game had been properly beta tested before being sold in stores.

Or the two prior games for that matter.  Good grief.

The game could very well have been "properly beta tested", that doesn't mean that the bugs that were found were ever fixed though.  It could have been tested to hell and back, but the issues found still have to be fixed.  That is an issue for the developers and the producers to work out, as far as time to fix vs. acceptable bug levels and need to release project due to overruns, etc.
