First the bad news.
Many of you know SBOAce. Many of you don't. Ace is a member in my fleet, but more importantly he is my friend. As many ofyou know, when we play games online, we tend to get close to some people. I have become good friends with Ace.
Ace (his real name is Eric) was about as happy as a man could be. He recently met the woman of his dreams, Julie. They became engaged and were enjoying life. Eric decided that Julie was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. Eric married Julie about 3 months ago. As many of you know, in the U.S. many states require that you get a blood examination prior to getting married. Eric and Julie both had that done and were ready to get married. However, they received a phone call from the Doctor telling them their were abnormalities in Julie's blood. So they talked with the Doctor and come to find out, Julie has Lymph Node (spelling) Cancer. Julie is relatively young, in her 20's. At first Eric and Julie were shocked but they also realized that this sort of Cancer is highly treatable if caught early. Unfortunately the doctor informed them that it has progressed for too much, even to the point of them not even trying chemotherapy (spelling). And so, the doctors told Julie she had about 3 to 6 months to live.
Eric and Julie went and got a second opinion. While they were waiting on this, they went on their honeymoon. You see, Even though Eric was told of this, he married his love anyway. Eric took her to California to see her family for some time. And then they went to Italy and enjoyed some time there. They spent about 2 months away. Recently they received the results from the second opinion. And again it was confirmed that Julie indeed had Cancer. It also was confirmed that it has progressed too far along for them to do anything.
As a friend, I asked Eric if he needed any financial help, to which he replied, it is already taken care of. I then asked myself what I could do to help. And it hit me. If I can't help Julie right now, I could certainly help someone in the future in Julie's honor.
Now the Great news.
I have decided that I was going to give as much money as I can to a Cancer research organization. My hope is that sometime in the future, that money will help someone else. I can't give much but I was hoping that is where you guys would help. As I write this, there are over 4700 registered people. If each of us gave $1 it would be around $4700.00 in money for this charity.
Here is where the great news comes in. Julie's story has been told to the folks over at IOGC.net (an online gaming club). IOGC has agreed to match our money contributed, dollar for dollar, up to $5000.00. This is unbelievable. IOGC.net is going to match whatever we give up to $5000.00, dollar for dollar. So, if we can raise $1,000.00, they will match it with $1,000.00. Guys, I talked with Eric and he was almost to tears when I told him what we are wanting to do. I am asking for each of us to just donate $1.00. Instead of supersizing your Mcdonald's lunch 2morrow, will you consider giving it in honor of Julie? Instead of spending that last $1.00 in quarters at the Arcade, will you consider giving it in honor of Julie? Instead of buying that double chocolate, with 3 extra shots of caffiene, coffee at starbucks, will you consider giving it in honor of Julie? I am not asking for much. I just want to help as much as I can.
If you are willing to help out, please go to
www.iogc.net. They have set up a seperate webpage and a seperate paypal account just for this. They are graciously helping us with this cause and I am now asking for your help.
I leave you with this thought. One person helping another is wonderful. Imagine if we had many helping people.
