WZ45's Romulanized SuvwI' Qeh
« on: September 16, 2003, 01:16:05 am »
Well, I?m at it again?. Insomnia strikes again

I asked myself, "How would WickedZombie Romulanize this?"
It took me a few days to figure out where to place the textures from WZ45?s Romulan War Eagle on to his SuvwI? Qeh but here?s what I came up with. Only WZ45's textures were used.

I like the results anyway.

Backstory:

During the waning days of the Klingon-Romulan alliance several incomplete SuvwI? Qeh hulls were known to be acquired by the Romulans. Although most Romulan commanders scoffed at the idea of continuing to use Klingon designed hulls, most were practical enough to reallize that the Romulan fleet was desperatey in need of additional modern ships to defend its borders from the encroachment of the Federation. With Romulan resources being limited and devoted to the lengthy process of building new fleets during this time period, most Romulan commanders were willing to accept whatever ships they could get their hands on to augment their over extended fleets. Using stock War Eagle components the Romulans were quickly able to adapt the sturdy SuvwI? Qeh hulls to their needs. Additional modifications included an enhanced cloaking device and the addition of plasma weapons.

Looks very cool KF - though I would have made the eagle's wings more angled forwad - so they fit the shape of the wings better, and some of the hull looks a bit orange around the neck and command hull, but yeah it's very cool. One other suggestion I would make to you is that you should change the warp plasma exhausts to be different from the Klingon colour to be a brighter green - more like the colour of the torpedo launchers.

I love the textures. I do see the slightly orange parts, but they're not very noticeable. Overall an excellent reinterpretation of an already great model!

That looks mighty fine KF. You have a knack for that.

You know, at some point you are going to have to cough up some of this stuff you have been collecting and retexturing. You possess that which would make the game more diverse and interesting. Anyway, a well done retext on that Suvwi'Qeh.

You mean Klingon Fanatic has been holding out on us? Share the wealth, man! (if the authors permit of course).

Thanks folks for the positive feedback folks. WZ45 did a really great job with these two ship texture sets.

In regards to the orange textures, I was trying to keep the green texture hightlights in the ship?s neck and when I made the base cream color darker it looked too bluish and out of place color wise for my tastes. Note the red-orange impulse engine textures are taken directly from WZ45?s fine War Eagle and I think color-wise they are a good contrast against the greenish hull theme. In regards to the green warp engines, I will experiment with the same green used on the plasma torpedo textures. Oh yeah, I was having a problem angling the wings to match the center of the bird  (the bird center doesn?t fit perfectly (for me) due to the placement of the third warp engine. This was the best I could come up with (at 3 AM EST). At any rate I will still consider this a WIP so if I can tweak it better I will, otherwise I?ll leave it as is.

Again my goal is to keep most of WZ45?s textures intact.

As to holding out, I have to say that I am waiting for Ganymad?s ok to release WZ45?s retextured Ulysses class. I have been unable to reach him for comment on using his USS Redemption textures. When I do contact him I?ll be sure to ask about the USS Sabrina, plasma dreadnought textures as well. In the maentime, WZ45 has been sent copies of the Romulanized SuvwI? Qeh  collage pictured above and I?m awaiting his comments.

BTW: WZ45 made this new signature for me. Thanks again WZ45!

I already sent you a reply to your email giving you the go-ahead KF.

As for the bird/engine problem, a quick solution I would suggest is lopping off the third engine/pylon altogether. In fact, I built that option into the original SuvwI'Qeh for the sole purpose of making a variant. My idea in the case of your Romulan version is the Klingons may have given them slightly older and less advanced Suvvies, with the third engine versions (along with other internal upgrades) being the most recent, top of the line editions reserved for the pride of the Klingon fleet.

Cripes, I really should get around to writing up technical data on these things.

cool idea and texture rework for the romulan version but you should use an other bird painting for the bottom and make a bigger warpnacelle glow

Hey WickedZombie:

I was wondering what you meant by building in the option to remove the third engine/pylon. I'm a modeling ignoramus.

Could you elaborate on that?

He meant that the mesh underneath where the pylon connects with the hull is completely intact, so basically if u lopped off the third nacelle & pylon there would not be a hole left where they had been, the hull would be intact - Same thing with his PumwI', the inner nacelles and impulse engines can be axed and the ship stays intact.

Basically, I made it so the bulk of the parts on the Suvvie were easily removable, ie not 'welded' together with the rest of the ship. I prefer keeping ships kitbashable so not only I can rip them apart for components but so others can do the same. In the case of the engines on the Suvvie, I also added parts to the textures on the area where the third engine is mounted so if it is deleted, there won't be a big blank spot on the hull and the textures for the extra engine can be deleted without it affecting the rest of the ship.

OK, here's what I'd like to do.

I'd like somebody to send me a two engined variant mod/break FILE only (no textures, lol). In the meantime,  I will work on an alternate set of textures (for the two engine one) with the goal of releasing them both at the same time.

Already sent you the files KF.

Luckily for you VL, I'm a packrat so I have every rendition of the Lexington textures I ever did, including the blanks for the final release. They should be on their way in a few minutes.

This has nothing to do with modeling ships, just a question I've been meaning to ask:

What the heck does "woot" mean?
