Debate of Regula one size
« on: September 15, 2003, 08:47:25 pm »
Ok. I've been wanting to mess with a regula one for a while now. I have found 2 starbase size charts. One lists it as a little over 200m high, andother a little over 100m in diameter. (so probably between 300-400m high in that case)

Now, the constitution refit is 305 in length, atleast according to ex astris. I don't think regula one is shorter than the connie is long. So who's up for a good old canon size arguement?

well ill bite on this one. if i remember the movies right(could be rong) when the connie came alongside reguls one they seem close to the same length vs. hight.  but alas its been awhile sence i viewed this movie so alas could be WAY rong

iknow following about the Regula research stations:
Length:92,41m
Width:143,47m
Height: 193,12m

and in the movie "Wrath of Kahn" the Connie was much bigger than the Regula station and the the Regula has docking ports  and the Connie to so why don't you use them as base for scaling because the docking ports are always the same size

Hmm, docking ports, interesting idea, assuming ofcourse the particular model I'm using has them. I always assumed the base was much larger than the connie, because the ball shaped bases in TNG are basicly the top of a regula one, I allways assumed they were the same thing.  I wonder of those dimentions (besides the width ofcourse) apply to the obital office complex, or if that was a scaled up regula one as well? I don't believe there were ever any ships close enough to it to get an idea.

The TMP era Office Complex/Regula One stations are much smaller than their TNG versions (mainly going by the stations in DS9) where they were the size of Galaxy class starships. Trek's FX guys have a tendency to triple the sizes of pre-existing designs with no consideration as to just how the laws of physics prevent such changes. I doubt they altered the scale of the Office Complex when they stripped it down into Regula One so at least those two versions are the same sizes.

These are the scales listed at EAS:

Office Complex:

Width: approx. 210m
Height: approx. 200m

Regula One:

Width: approx. 100m (narrow side)
Height: approx. 200m

As for the TNG versions, all of my references point to a scale between 500 and over 1000 meters, which makes the windows and other details on those stations pretty damn big. If you were to do one of those versions, I'd suggest at least adding more and smaller windows to reflect the size change, and making the docking ports smaller so they don't look like a Defiant class can glide through.

So the office came first...ok. Thanks for the info. BTW, I will have a ported Titan for bridge commander later today. U should aready know this because 2 people in the thread said you gave the ok, but just making sure. I might do that klingon too, I'm starting to fall in love with that thing.
