During the next several weeks be VERY cautious about opening or launching
any e-mails that refer to the World Trade Center or 9/11 in any way,
regardless of who sent it. PLEASE FORWARD TO ALL YOUR
FRIENDS AND FAMILY. FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW, "WTC" STANDS FOR THE WORLD
TRADE CENTER. REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE PEOPLE WILL OPEN IT RIGHT AWAY,
THINKING ITS A STORY RELATING TO 9/11!

BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor" It is a virus that
will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of
an E-Mail from a familiar person. I repeat, a friend sent it to me, but
called and warned me before I opened it. He was not so lucky and
now he can't even start his computer!

Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this
25 times than not at all. So, if you receive an email called "WTC
Survivor", do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all
dynamic link libr! aries (.dll f iles) from your computer.

I just received a couple of emails regarding a "new" virus with the following message in the body of the email:

Date: Wed, 24 Oct 2001 08:50:15 -0500
Subject: Fwd: FW: Warning- New Virus: "WTC Survivor"

Dear All,

BIGGGG TROUBLE !!!! DO NOT OPEN "WTC Survivor"
It is a virus that will erase your whole "C" drive. It will come to you in the form of an E-Mail from a familiar person.
I repeat a friend sent it to me, but called and warned me before I opened it.
He was not so lucky and now he can't even start his computer!
Forward this to everyone in your address book. I would rather receive this 25 times than not at all.

If you receive an email called "WTC Survivor" do not open it. Delete it right away! This virus removes all dynamic link libraries (.dll files) from your computer.

These messages really do annoy me. The only thing worse is the ones that tell you to delete a system file - in effect being a manual virus.

Especially since it took one minute to search on Nortons website to determine it was a hoax. Now if it's been posted three times here, I wonder who else has been "warned".

our IT supervisor calls them third world viruses, Its bascialy one of thoes things where they want you to send a warning to everyone in your Email directory becuase their schools could not aford the texbook that tells you how to use Outlook to auto forward the virus to everyone on your list

WTC Survivor

One of several hoax virus alerts which surfaced soon after the 9/11/01 terrorism event. Vmyths believes this hoax grew out of a (misguided) attempt to quash a different (non-virus) "WTC survivor" legend making the rounds in email. See below for a related link.

Like many hoax virus alerts, this one implores the recipient to forward it to everyone they know. "I would rather receive this 25 times than not not all..." A popular variant starts off with "for those that don't know, 'WTC' stands for the World Trade Center.....which makes this virus really dangerous because people will open it right away.....thinking its a story relating to 9/11."
