Confirming the ESG Lance Stats?
« on: August 18, 2003, 10:47:39 pm »
Didn't play Lyran much back when OP first came out and there are no stats in the manual.  Here is what I seem to see happening with the ESG Lance.  Can anyone else confirm/correct this?

The weapon arms in one turn for four points of power.  After that, you can hold it for four points of power.

The weapon can fire out to range 6, always does 16 points of damage, and cannot miss its target.  There is no overload function.

Is this all correct?

Edited to clean spelling and correct use of "damage" when I meant "power"

Yes. It's just a concentrated ESG field. ECM has no effect.

Yet more proof that the Feds are the Borg in disguise. Assimilating as many weapon systems as they can. PPDs next?

Heh heh.  I'd trade in my plasma for that too.  And maybe a few other things.

16 points of damage every turn out to range six, for only four points of power, and you never miss?  Pardon me whilst I leave all my maulers at home.

"The ESG Lance is basically a concentrated, direct fire version of the ESG field.  The firing ship produces a sphere much smaller than a ship, which is carried to the target ship by way of a guidance torpedo.  There is no to-hit chance for this weapon, if it is in range and fires, it hits automatically, it is not affected by ECM or EM, or Wild Weasels.  It has a maximum range of 6k, causes 16 damage, costs 4 points to arm in one arming cycle (turn), and holds for 4 points as well."  Personally I'm not that crazy about it, but I'm no Xship fan, either.  S'cippy stay away from Lyran technology, you scaly hided rascal.

Na, you don't need a Lyran ship for ESG Lance fun.  Just fly the uber Tigerheart XDD, or even better with refit, XDDF.  I'll supply the whine, if you bring that cheese

I play a lot of Lyran, and find the ESG Lance to be nearly useless.  Its range is too short to sabre-dance, and it does less damage than a regular ESG at point blank.  Considdering the MRV drones on Mirak X-ships, the Lyran X-cruisers could use more ESG's and PG's.  What would be more interesting would be something like an ESG morter, fired like a transporter bomb.  If I were to build my own shiplist, I would not include the ESG Lance on any ship.  Useless waste of a good hardpoint.
