How do you get Lightmaps turned on in SFC2?
« on: August 21, 2003, 04:41:49 pm »
Nobodies ships have ever been lit up in my SFC2 game. I always thought it was just that my vid card couldn't read em. Well I been playing SFC3 and you can choose to have lightmaps on or off. Guess what? They work for me in SFC3. So... what am I missing in SFC2? Now I know it ain't my vid card anymore. Am I missing something real obvious here?

I belive there is a brightness setting but i dont remember where it was at   options in game i think  if you find it lower the ambiant brightness that may help.

Thanks for that Kreeargh. There is an ambient setting in  sfc.ini.  Min is .2 and max is .5 I think.  For me it just makes the overall ship dark or light. My ships have never been lit like I see others. I don't just mean the ones I made but any I downloaded that I saw were lit.  Anyway now that I see how ships look in SFC3, SFC2 may be collecting dust for awhile.

I gave up on sfc3 for the most part i dont like the blur effect, it makes some detail worthless and the lack of a shipedit for it keeps me away too    if i had excell but then agian i dont wana type more errors in to my game ive already screwed it up enough

Hmm. I don't get any blur at all.  The ships are cystal clear for me.  They look cleaner and brighter than SFC2.  Wish I could post some full size pics to show.  I just learned how to do glows and I found that most people leave the alpha at 255 for all of them.  For long areas like the lentgh of a nacel. 55 alpha diffuses the glow so it doesn't stand out like a bright ball.

Then I want to redo light maps now that I see how there suppose to look. The stock ones black out the entire ship except the lights. I want them so they darken the ship but not black it out completely. Likely I'll just replace the stock ships anyway.

in the SFC.ini under 3D there's a setting named "lumanence textures". I've never played with it. It's set on 1 in mine. If yours is set at 0 I'll bet that's it. Just a guess though.
