Refit Constitution Class - A Long-standing Project Completed
« on: August 17, 2003, 02:56:00 am »
Due to various real life concerns, I haven't had many chances to put any effort into the Connie. Luckily, I managed to buckle down and get this puppy finalized and out the docking bay doors. Not only was she distracting me from other projects but also holding up several which needed parts and textures built from her. So, without further yacking, here's she is:

I cant get her. She wont D/L... If its anything like the pics, its one of the smoothest fca's Ive seen. I want to get a look under the hood!.

Im currently using a retextured version of P81's old fca. I think it has 3500+ polys/ Is that correct? Yours is 6500? Wonder what the exact difference in polys really is.

Anyway... I hyess Ill have to wait to plug her into the game....

The difference is in the detailing:

I'd actually wanted to use more hi-res bitmaps but I also wanted to be able to play it in-game without my computer choking so I had to compromise. At any rate, I think she came out pretty damn good.

WOW! There's a lot of love crammed into that ship. Gorgeous.

HOLY FRICKIN CRAP!!!

How ling did it take to make those textures? Looks like a couple weeks of very detailed work. Unbelievable. As always, you have showed us lesser beings the folly of our thoughts and ways.

Here's yet another FCA. Arnt there enough? NO! Not like this one!

The few extra polys go a long way in making this one of the best FCA's I have seen.

If you havent seen beyond the smooth clean textures (almost too clean for my tastes) of WZ's model, then you dont know what you are missing.

1st off, I want to say that there is a world of difference between this FCA and all the others I have seen mesh wise.

WZ accurately does the saucer dip on the bottom like no other model. Awesome. I have never seen so much detail on the sensor dish or the shuttlebay. There is even extra mesh detail around the photon tubes to make it stand out. The whole mesh stands out....

He went about texturing the model quite a bit differently than other FCA textures. They are worth taking a look at if you like to customize. He has a very cool layout that is easy to change.

Nice job WZ. I'll bet this one took you quite a while...

Woo hoo! Another Constitution! I know I go on an on about this ship, but like any other addiction, I can never have too much of her!

Your latest version is gorgeous.

In my game no two Constitution Class heavy cruisers are alike, believe it ot not!

Just taking a moment to compliment the new offering from a long standing SFC modeler. We don't hear from you that often but when we do it's usually a bomb shell. Need I even point out how good this ship is? Between you and Anduril we have a couple of talented guys that are still with us and still building quality stuff. Thank you.

Very nice dude, a definite improvement over your last on in the mesh, I didn't quite like the proportions of some of the pieces like the sensor dome on the bottom but this one is absolutely classic and if I can see the pics correctly you've even added that bit of the dorsal connector that runs horizontally into the saucer - very nice attention to detail. The textures too are pretty cool, very clear and clean, I usually tend towards the more bump-mapped style of P81 and Khaliban's textures but your latest effort strikes a ver nice balance between the really stark and really bump-mapped - bravo you decaying corpse you

Any chance of us seeing a Miranda or Constellation using this puppy? :Hint Hint:

Well, I've never been a fan of bump mapping (hence the lack of them on mine), or even beveled textures, mainly because it takes a lot of time and effort to get them just right or they end up looking cartoony/cardboardish. I think Khaliban's is the only one I've seen that got the bump mapping accurate to how the big E looks onscreen without overdoing it. The Constitution's raised detailing isn't easily seen until you're practically on top of the model anyways.

I *might* have a Miranda and Constellation in the works....

I choose to take the word 'might' as 'definetly' if you don't mind! LOL

On the bump-mapping I'll agree it can look a bit crap if not done properly, some of P81's later stuff he definetly went overboard with the bump-mapping especially on the TMP ships.

BTW I almost forgot, where'd that spacedock in the last pic of your first post come from?
