I know what you mean. I heard from someone that there was a computer game that was going to be based on SFB. That was all it took to get me interested. The game was great and I wish I had time to actually play it.

Good memories!

I bought the game as it came out and I was really doubtful that it would deliver the SFB feel if promised. Then I tried it and I realized it did! Boy I was excited!

I find your comment insulting, especially coming from someone who's link is broken. I've jabbed at that picture on my screen 10 times now with my finger claw, and nothing has happened except that I've scratched the glass and will have to buy a new monitor. Don't feel so smart now, do you?

I remember the day my friend told me they were making a game based on Star Fleet Battles. I was appauled!! I said can't they make a game "not" based on SFB. I said, we've gone this long without a game based on SFB.....c'mon can't we go another 20 years?

I'm a Star Trek fan first and I was hoping that I could add "another" Star Trek game to my shelf FULL of Star Trek games. But nooooooo, they had to go and make ONE game based on SFB...........that was a horrible day for me. Ohhhh the bad memories.

Q: What is the difference between a Lead Designer and a CEO?
A: Hair. Want Proof? Here is the Lead Designer (circ 1999, on SFC1 bonus disc) and here is the CEO(circ 2001, the dirt files).

The very first SFC match I played online, I was in a gorn BCH.. fighting against a bunch of other noobs while being directed by a guy that had the game for about 4 weeks.

I killed most of them (before getting chomped) with the ole "Trac and unload all plaz" trick

I never played SFB. I played FASA Trek. What hooked me was the Repair Roundevous skirmish on the demo and the rest is history, LOL.

Please, somebody make the SFC1 missions for SFC2/OP...

I had vaguely heard of SFB and even more vaguely heard that there was going to be some Star Trek type game in which you could command and direct a group of ships and go against another ship or groups and that you could have some control over the workings of your ship. Then I forgot about all of this. One day, during an obligatory (y'all know the drill) run to Price Club (now Costco), I saw SFC1 for about thirty bucks USD or so. I grabbed it, tossed it into the cart and well... I'm still running it! And God bless those guys who put out SFC1 versions of models!

SFC is cool, I did like the groups you could join. SFC:OP is cooler, just because the Dynaverse idea was taken further and the ship selection and race selection was wider.

Really wish they had included an option to ONLY allow 'built' ships in the campaign and pick missions based on which ships were actually in each sector with which mission. (IE., a true dynamic campaign)

Still, it's cool.

Not half as cool as SFB, though.

Seriously, to all of you who played the SFC series and thought these games were pretty cool - YOU MUST GO BUY SFB! You're already familiar with the game mechanics, and if you thought you could do a lot with your starships in SFC (compared to other space or RTS games)...you ain't seen *nothin* yet!

Besides, the SFB Kzinti are just cooler than the SFC 'Mirak'.

And you'll never convince me the SFC Fed DN is half as cool as the SFB Fed DN:

No, those aren't mine.

Haven't finished up my SFB models yet, these were just other pics people took of their SFB minis.

Mine should be much better when done.

But, yeah, try SFB. Better game than SFC anyday (although SFC obviously does in a pinch).

Well, there isn't any point in doing that in SFC.

In SFB, it's played slow because there are so many more tactical options. Maneuver is so much richer in SFB, and let's not even get into how much more control you have over energy allocation and *reserve power*!

SFC played slow is pointless, as you don't get any more beneit. There just isn't that much SFC ships can DO in a turn (relatively speaking). SFB ships have a LOT that can happen at the drop of a hat (or, more appropriately, the application of a reserve power unit), so turns must be slower.

Well I loaded up SFC1 because of this thread.

Took me a little while to get reacquainted with the UI, but I adjusted

I had forgotten how much better the missions and story line were in the original. And best of all are the missions created by the community. The api for SFC1 was so much simpler than the one for SFC2. This allowed a lot of people to create some great missions. In hindsight, making the missions so hard to make have made SFC2 a lot less 'fun' than the first iteration of the game.

... but aside from the missions and api, I much prefer SFC2.
