Can Someone Help
« on: February 05, 2003, 12:14:02 am »
I need some help if possible,  I'm unable to connect to the dynaverse (i.e. the access server) because of my router.  I have tried everything in ther network read-me, including updating the firmware for the router and still no go.  I'm using a Linksys BEFR11S4 Access Port/Router.  I'm still obviously able to connect to the internet so the router is working properly.  I 'd appreciate any help or insight I could get if anyone has had this problem before.

I think there's a description on how to use this router in the 'Network and Multiplayer Readme' which can be found under the name network_readme.rtf in the SFC3 > Docs > Help folder

There are at least 3 other posts with all kinds of suggestions/solutions on this Forum just in the last few days.  Check out the posts on both General and Dyna3 Experiences over the last week or so, if not farther back, you will find all kinds of information.

To quickly sum up some of what I have personally put up before, having dealt with this problem myself:

Find out if your ISP uses your modem's IP or your machine's IP.  It makes a difference.  If using the machine's IP you might have to enter the MAC code on the appropriate router setup page.

Make sure the right ports are open per the Networking Help guide on the SFC3 CD.

Try using your router in DMZ mode (make sure you are running a good software firewall before doing this as it will effectively remove your router as a "firewall.")

After trying all this, you may have to wait for the test to complete and ask for you to enter your IP address.  Have the IP addresses for both your modem and your machine available and try them both.

As always there are many people on this Forum that know a lot more about this than do I so check back if none of that works.

good luck

I should probably clear up a few things, right now i'm using the linksys as the AP running to my other computer I'm using as a proxy server.  So I don't have dsl.  From the solutions I read I think this could make a difference.

As it stands right now I have forwarded the proper ports as it say in the readme and put my router in the DMZ.  When I try to connect it tries to connect to the access server and counts down.  After counting down I get a message saying unable to connect to acces server, server may be down please check your internet connection and try again.

Same thing over and over no matter what I try.

Have you tried running without the proxy server?

(Not sure about how to set up a linux firewall but I'm sure someone
around here does... maybe this will help?:
 SFC2 through a Linux Firewall
also try this link, about half way down (posts by FireSoul and Strafer):
Though SFC3 is out, how many will still play SFC2/OP? )

There are some ports your firewall must forward to your computer or it won't work.I think they are listed in the netork readme file located somewhere in your SFC3 directory structure. Also, Gamespy has a list of ports it needs in its support pages.
