SFC2 to SFC3 Model Conversion
« on: February 04, 2003, 10:54:43 pm »
I have been looking all over the place for models to add to my SFC3 ship list.  There are some VERY cool ships out there.  The only problem is most or nearly ALL of them are for SFC2.  So, I was wondering if someone could help me out and point me to a tutorial on converting these ships or telling me I'm just out of luck.  Thanks!

It's pretty simple really.. take your model and drop it into SFC 3 as is, and you'll be able to see it (if you replace a current model).  The conversion process from SFC2 to SFC 3 basically involves just adjusting hp/dp and adding damage textures (plus beauty shots/tactical image/library image/library text, glows if you want them) and then your ship'll be in there and flying.  There's modifications to the defaultcore.txt and such.. but I'm not an expert on that one.. Lord Vader would be a good one to ask there.

Ok, I got a SFC2 model working.    Thanks for the help.   A few hard points still need to be fixed but all is good.  I am having trouble creating a beauty shot, tactical image, and library image.  Any tips?  Such as do you have to have a modeling program to be able to get some of these pics or should I do a screen capture from the game?  Also should and can you increase the image quality?

You don't need a modelling program at all..the main thing that you need is to generate the picture, which means that you can draw one if you wanted to.. insert an image of Crusty the Clown, or what have you.  The onle important factor is the size of the images matching the specified image sizes.  So you can use ModViewer to generate these images, then resize them, and have them show up in game.
