WIP: sfc.ini manual for SFC2 (comments welcome)
« on: August 09, 2003, 07:23:04 pm »
Well, as a spin off of OP FAQ project (which is still on going), I've decided to document some of the untold quirks within the sfc.ini, or at least TRY to.

So, here is my first work in progress preview.

http://home.cogeco.ca/~joshuali/wip-sfcini.080903.htm

This page is aimed at SFC2 and SFC1. NOT SFC3, which has an entirely different sfc.ini. Also, I apologize for all the colors, they are status indicators for now. Green means it's either personally verified, or it has come from very reliable sources.   Yellow means I am satisfied of the results, but cannot say for sure. Black means I have no idea how to test this, so I merely listed it to acknowledge its existence.
The final product will likely be a PDF or ASCI text, so, don't fuss about the colors.

please report the following in this thread.
1.) Any entries I missed.
2.) Any explanations I missed, or I was wrong on.
3.) Any typos (there will be plenty) or passages that are unclear.

BTW, Dave (Mr. Ferrel), I'd appreciate any official word on the entries.

Thanks all.

This is long overdue. the last time I saw someone ask what the .ini settings were for they were told to quit being lazy and find out for themselves. It sure would be nice to have all of this filled in, finally.

The only typo that I picked out is the hex's are 10k X 10k, not 1k X 1k.

Yes, the lack of responses would be indicative of a lack of errors.

Nice.

Shipstacking=0 will stop ships from flying over each other when they get close. In other words, there is no automatic Z-axis movement in the game. The models will stay on the same plane.

Thanks Tar, will add that to the list. Got any more?

Actually, Rod, that wasn't a typo. I am not talking about the grid in the minimap, I am talking about the grid in the Preference screen.

It's clearly a 1 by 1 square.

(p.s. if anyone is wondering why the BOP is only 2.58 away when there are four boxes between them. It's because "ship range" is defined as shield to shield distance. The 4 boxes represent the ship center-of-model to the other c-o'-m. Which is another interesting topic, especially for large plasma-carrying ships...)

A long time ago I posted that my ships were flying into each other and not over each as they should, Im guess the shipstacking has something to do with it, Is there anyway to increase the Z-Axis automatic movement so that ships go either up or down not thru each other, my settings on 1, but are there more settings

PS: Great job dot
