Non-Dynaverse Campaign (SFC3)
« on: October 16, 2006, 11:42:56 am »
It's been a while since I've played SFC3, but last night I had an interesting Idea.  Attempting to play a Campaign without the Dynaverse, that way we can play a turn whenever we feel like it rather than having all of us sitting in front of the computer for days on end.

I'm sure the idea is nothing new, but I have to wonder if its been done, or attempted before.  As I see it there would have to be two things that are an absolute neccessity to get this done.

1) I would need to know how to convert SP scripts into MP (Skirmish) scripts.

2) I would need to know if there is a way to import and export damage to existing ships,  Mainly hull damage, the sub-system damage can largely be ignored.

I would imagine that this would be easier than SFC2's sector assault, since Hull Damage is not based on system heatlh.

Interesting concept.

with the SP to MP, it can be done but would be ALOT of work.  I've played with SP to MP and farsed around with it and had a little luck, but I'm fairly new to mission scripting for sfc3.  as for you 2nd question, I guess I need a little more information clearification before I stick my foot in my mouth with a dumb post lol

Basically I'd like to know if theres a way to record the hull damage to ships invovled in skirmishes at the end of the battle.  And then Import them into another skirmish later.  That way ships that are beat up in a battle, are still damaged until they get repairs.

Another question I would have, is there any way to get more ships in a skirmish (AI)?

I have never heard of it being done in SFC3 but

It works great in SFC:OP cause with Magnums Sector assault you can track damage and import it into battles and get results of battles.  It is tracked with the ships names.

I run campaigns like this all the time and have for years.  You might get some good ideals for the rules, movement systems, etc,  by looking over our current site, that is on turn 4 of a micro Federation vs Klingon war.  The campaign rules have been developed over many years of players finding exploits, save yourself some headaches and read the rules, each little piece is in there cause someone found a exploit prior.  Else you will see how much players can find chinks in the game armour.  Even like a time limit on the battle, is in place cause one guy just ran around forever with a high speed ship, until the other player got so frustrated he left.  Not the kinda 4 hour win you want to see in a game  ;)

or our upcoming full scale campaign with the larger crew is due to launch this fall/winter

Lastly players are always welcome.

One last word of warning:

One of SFC3 strong points is the custimization of ships.  That can cause an issue in a paper tracked turn based game.

Are you going to trust players, even if they are strangers?  Each turn you would have to examine each players ships and confirm they are the same as the turn befores.  If someone changes a weapon load out or other option, you won't know it unless you manually check every ship every turn.  Depending on the scale of the game that can be quite the undertaking.
