SFCIII : Arrows at the bottom of the tactical display?

I was wondering what the arrows that occasionally appear at the bottom of the screen are for while you're fighting an other ship?

from what ive been able to tell, those arrows are the computer telling you (like it thinks your too stupid to figure it out on your own) which direction (by pressing the arrow keys) you need to go to line up a charged weapon with your current target.  If one wants to be critical about it, you could say that the game is insulting our intelligence, but i just choose to ignore those things.

I think it's a lot like the "Shift Now" lights they used to have on old '80s Fords.  Like you couldn't tell when the engine was about to blow up or stall out.

The good news is the sfc.ini includes a line to turn on or off this option. You don't have to live with it if you don't want to (I think it's really annoying and useless -- give me back my ship tags around the screen border anyday).
