SFC1 problem
« on: February 03, 2003, 10:36:14 pm »
I just recently purchased SFC1. (I found a used copy, finally!) I DL'd and installed the 1.03 patch. I ran the game last night and all went well. Today, when I tried to play it again, the only gameplay option that lights up is multiplayer? The singleplayer skirmish and campaign modes are "greyed out" and I can't access them. Anyone know how to fix this? If anyone knows, I'd appreciate it.

Your game CD needs to be in for you to play it.

If your CD player isn't able to detect the CD then you have a problem.

This may be attributable to the WinXP bug dealing with multiple users/logins for the WinXP OS.  There is a post on this forum telling about one possible solution.

Thanks Buying it used, I didn't get a manual, (No, I didn't lose it ) and there aren't any pop-up warnings. I'm using XP, but other than having to manually run the install I haven't noticed any other bugs *yet*!
                                                                        Thanks again

The SFC1 manual is very nice publication.  If you can find it somewhere and the seller isn't going to gouge you for it, it would be a nice thing to have.

The manual should be on the CD, no?  I have the manual in PDF format on my CD.  I printed it out and put it in a three ring binder.

The reason only the multiplayer works is that you can run a game with up to two other people on one CD.  The only CD required needs to be in the host's machine, the two other people can connect and play multiplayer on his or her machine without needing two more CDs.  Very nice.

I played some SFC1 last night for the first time in a long time and I forgot how good it was.  The mission variety is just excellent compared to later versions.  If there were only some way to marry the best of SFC1, SFC2, and SFC3.

That is great!
I, too, just recently reinstalled the game and dusted off the beautiful, ring bound manual (hubba, hubba).  As you said, the variety of missions is stunning.  The soundtrack, the interface, the return of the saber dance!!  I tell you... in my opinion, Taldren created a work of art with that game.  It is one of the few computer games I own that I can see playing 20, 30 years down the line.
I am doing my best to teach the game to my not yet three year old daughter.  Future Trekkie?  Or future 'kid that thought her dad was a fruitcake'?  Who cares... Im having fun.

(edit : And when your child asks if she can go see the 'Gorns at the Zoo', you know you're on the right track - heh.)

LOL Gorn's at the Zoo..

Similarly dont forget the "targs at the wildlife park"

1.) heaven helps us. More "lost manual" posts!!!

2.) Do you mean to say you gave the manual away to a girl? (what would girls want with SFC manual?!) or at the urging of a girl?

3.) ALL MANUALS. SFC1, 2, 2.5, and 3 are ALL Avilable for fownload online. (if you can't find it on CD.)

1/2/OP/ are from Interplay.com, 3 can be found at yahoo!games-on-demand.
