The TOS era Belknap class.
« on: July 31, 2003, 08:46:03 pm »
Mesh is mostly done.

I wanted a different bridge than the connie so I went with the Phase 2 bridge module.

For a while I was considering what to do with the area at the bottom of the unusual engineering hull where the pylons meet.  Then I was trying to figure out what to do with the heavy weapons suite that the Battlecruisers have in the sec hull.  They I thought of the old reeses peanut butter cup commercial.  "You got chocolate in my peanut butter!  You got your peanut butter.....yada yada"

Anyway since the ship is kind of radical I went with a radical thing and put the heavy weapons down near the junction of the pylons too.  Some federation design to move them further away from the deflector dish and planetary array so that when the versions with Plasma's launch the torps won't interfere with the workings of the other systems.  Or something like that.  At least that's my story and I'm sticking with it.  It's hard to see but I have a recess in the front of that assembly on the bottom for the torp/whatever launchers.

I'm probably going to put a shoulder on the top of the sec hull around the neck like the tmp ships have only it won't have a forward weap launcher in it.  But if I do that I'll probably put a weaps hardpoint at the back of it for a rear firing torp, a drone launcher whatever.

ideas?

My favorite Federation battlecruiser.

I'm so happy. I kid you not.

Ideas? Oh shoot, I dunno. Locate a heavy weapon and a phaser hardpoint there for that option? Weak idea but it's late for me. I hope you out do yourself on this one.

Cool, I probably won't be here when you finish it (goin on holiday) but I bet it'll be fantastic as usual.

So is this like, the Decatur class? I saw some side views of it on shipschematics and it basically looks just like a TOS Belknap.

Yup, I got one Atrahasis did based off of P81's 3rd version connie, the port nacelle texture is reversed but other than that it's fairly cool, also he did an Ascension light dreadnought which is basically a Belknap with 3 nacelles and some other minor stuff, extra phasers and modified bridge module. I could send 'em your way if you want them, what email should I send them too?

A TMP Belknap? A TMP Belknap? ,,, he,he,he,he why yes! Yes there is. The other big A did it. There may be some P81 in there. I forget. I think it is the perfect CB. And I liked it sooo much that I sometimes make up specs for a CBR and a CBX just for fun. I can't make up my mind which is my all time fav model but it's among them.

I think you can pick up a copy at Starfleet Universe. Shoot, I think there is another one there by Moon.

Couple more shots.  I may add the cut in's for the impulse engines yet.

It's really coming together nicely. I might slowly get my new TOS fleet all updated and improved. I'm W-A-I-T-N-G!!!!!

Although it probably won't apply to your Belknap, since you have the bug to make your warps as perfect as possible, that suggests the earlier no do-dad sphere on the exausts version. Oh bother eh?

Funny you should mention that.  I was cruising thru some mods in the mod viewer in Feb or March and when I loaded up the old version of this I did a double take.  "Where the hell are the balls at the end of the nacelles?"

What's up with me texturing them in?

He he he. Ya maybe but I'm still glad you did that one. I dropped a set of Moon's textures on her to make it match my model set a little better. I even emailed you the results as an act of appreciation. I used to have a life now I have a computer and SFC.

Anyway, the comment was just a friendly tweak cause I know it will bug you at some point or another. Now that you have the late revision nacelles done you know there will come a time when ya just gotta do it. Or it's gonna stick in your craw slowly eating away at your sense of order. It will call to you in the night... but Anduril, where are my early nacelles? Don't you love us anymore? I don't have globe thingies! BTW, I've been looking at some of your later texturing results and I have to say they are really u-bangy good.

PS. If something sticks in ones craw, exactly where is that?

Thanks Bernard.

As has been pointed out numerous times we are no p81...which means I don't bump my own posts too!

  nya nya Rick.

Anyway, playing around with stuff now as most of the main things have been added.  I haven't gotten around to the pylons yet however.

Oooo, aaaah. I like the impulse engines. I have a thing for impulse engines. One of my fav things to do is give the illumination map color and give them a cherry red glow behing a grayish grid plate. It isn't noticable till you catch them at the right angle but I like it.

And that weathering fade from the seams is very sharp. Compliments on those little things you do.
